Liverpool have today completed a deal to bring Spanish right-back Javier Manquillo on loan to the club from Atletico Madrid.

Report: Liverpool tried to sign Atletico Madrid’s Javier Manquillo on deadline day

The 20-year-old, who made the switch to Atletico from rivals Real Madrid as a youth team player in 2007, is expected a add competition to the likes of Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan at right-back, and appeals to Brendan Rodgers‘ preference to bring in and develop young players.

Manquillo spoke to Reds’ official website, www.liverpoolfc.com having sealed his move, explaining his delight at joining a club of Liverpool’s stature.

“I’m very happy to have signed for a club like Liverpool. I think it’s one of the biggest in Europe. Any footballer would want to come and play here,” he said.

“When they tell you Liverpool want to sign you, I think like any player, you are going to be absolutely amazed and you don’t think of anything else than going straight there.

“It’s a team that nowadays, as I said before, any player would want to be a part of.”

Manquillo represents another box ticked in terms of transfer activity for Rodgers this summer, with Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi already purchased, and Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno set to join the Reds imminently.

Are you pleased with the acquisition of Javier Manquillo? Let us know in the comments section below.

With doubts surrounding his future at Liverpool, has Suso done enough this pre-season to convince that he has a future at the club? Jake Askham hopes so.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Sunday, May 19, 2013: Liverpool's 'Suso' Jesus Joaquin Fernandez Saenz De La Torre in action against Queens Park Rangers during the final Premiership match of the 2012/13 season at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Following the deadline day debacle just weeks into Brendan Rodgers‘ reign at Liverpool two years ago, the new manager’s attacking options were restricted to say the least. After losing out on Clint Dempsey to Spurs, the only option Rodgers had was to turn to his youngsters; step up Raheem Sterling and Suso. They both impressed; putting in solid performances both home and away but with players the age the inevitable happened, they burnt out.

Ask Liverpool fans who they’re most excited about seeing this season and I’d bet a large majority would say Raheem Sterling. The English winger seems to be going from strength to strength at an exceptional rate.

But what about Suso? What happened to him? Is his Liverpool career over? Nobody knows for sure; but I think he may just surprise a few people.

Many people, and myself included, feel that Rodgers will return to his preferred 433 formation as the default shape of the team, with 41212 used regularly too. So where would Suso fit in?

CHARLOTTE, USA - Saturday, August 2, 2014: Liverpool's 'Suso' Jesus Joaquin Fernandez Saenz De La Torre scores the second goal against AC Milan during the International Champions Cup Group B match at the Bank of America Stadium on day thirteen of the club's USA Tour. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

As with many attacking midfielders, Suso prefers to play in a more central position rather than the right wing where he found himself being played for a large majority of the 14 games he’s played for Liverpool so far. As with many “inverted wingers”, Suso loves to cut inside.

This is all well and good in pre-season friendlies, but the Premier League is a huge step up. Defenders will begin to realise that Suso isn’t blessed with blistering pace to beat them on the outside; they’ll usher him into the centre of the pitch where there’s less space.

If Suso is going to play in the right wing role, as an inside forward then he’ll have to mix it up a bit more than he has been doing. Even if he unsuccessfully tries to take his man on the outside or runs in behind the defence; doubts will start to creep into the defenders’ mind which can only ever be good news.

More than anything though, it’s off the ball where Suso needs to earn the manager’s trust.

Coutinho is similar attacking midfielder but he’s found himself playing in a more central position recently. Why? Because Rodgers trusts him to also work off the ball, when defending. If Suso can convince Rodgers that he’ll track back, press the opposition and not go into his shell if the going gets tough – then I think he may get a chance in the central midfield as the more creative of the three pronged midfield; that Rodgers seems to love.

Suso needs to look at Coutinho in the Merseyside derby at Anfield; showing that he can do the dirty work and a different side to his game.

Jordon Ibe’s performance against AC Milan was brilliant, the 18-year-old seemingly has a very bright future ahead of him, but I think Suso’s wasn’t far behind. Just watch his goal again; if that had been David Silva then people would still be talking about it. The way he ghosts past the incoming challenge, drives at the heart of the Italian defence, plays the ball out to Coutinho, in such a way that the Brazilian doesn’t even have to break his stride, smartly creates some space for himself on the edge of the box and then brilliantly places the ball into the far corner.

And finally, notice his celebration; he wasn’t at all surprised about what had just happened. That either shows he doesn’t care about football or playing for Liverpool or he knows his own ability, he knows that he can score goals like that on a weekly basis.

With the added games of the Champions League (and the assumption Suso will remain at the club); there should be plenty of opportunities for Suso to prove to Rodgers that he still has a future at the club. I think Rodgers will give him a chance too; most young players that break into the first team usually do so when an injury to a first team member occurs. The unfortunate injury to Adam Lallana may just be the piece of fortune that Suso needs to kick-start his Anfield career, let’s hope so.

Can this be Suso’s breakthrough year at Liverpool?

Dirk Kuyt the True Reds!

Kuyt mengakui memang Van Gaal pernah menghubungi beliau tentang hasrat LVG nak membawa dia ke OT.

Kuyt menyatakan ia tawaran yg sukar ditolak kerana melibatkan individu yg sentiasa memberi kepercayaan kepada beliau iaitu Louis Van Gaal. Namun kuyt menyatakan ia bukan sesuatu yg sukar untuk ditolak bila anda memikirkan tentang penyokong Liverpool dan Anfield yg seteru kepada Liverpool. Dan LVG tak sukar untuk memahaminya.

Nota Untuk PR25

U are always one of the best GK and the best in my generation in reds. Adios Amigos Pepe Reina! Kejarlah mimpi anda dan menang sebanyak mana disana. Surely you always be missed and u can come anytime to anfield as a player ,ambassador or coaching staff.

Javier Manquillo: Has signed for Liverpool on a two-year loan

Javier Manquillo: Has signed for Liverpool on a two-year loan

Liverpool have announced the signing of Atletico Madrid right-back Javier Manquillo.

The 20-year-old has joined on a two-year loan deal with an option to buy after his first season at Anfield.

Manquillo said: “I'm very happy to have signed for a club like Liverpool.

"I think it's one of the biggest in Europe. Any footballer would want to come and play here.

"When they tell you Liverpool want to sign you, I think like any player, you are going to be absolutely amazed and you don't think of anything else than going straight there."

Manquillo is a Spain Under-20 international defender who began his youth career at Real Madrid before switching to Atletico in 2007.

After making a 2011 first-team debut, he played 42 times for the club’s B team during the 2012-13 season and has gone on to play five more times for the reigning La Liga champions.

He becomes Liverpool’s seventh signing of the summer following the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi.

Rooney v Gerrard: Who will finish highest this season?

Rooney v Gerrard: Who will finish highest this season?

After Brendan Rodgers warned Louis van Gaal that he may be taken by surprise this season, we debate who will fare best - United or Liverpool.

Rodgers believes that the fierce competitiveness of the Premier League may be different to anything the new Manchester United manager has previously faced in a career during which he has won the Champions League and domestic titles in titles in Holland, Spain and Germany.

With Liverpool targeting an improvement on their second-placed finish last season and United looking to re-establish themselves as title contenders, the rivalry between the two great clubs looks set to be stronger than ever.

The big question is:

Who will finish highest in the Premier League this season - Liverpool or Manchester United?

UNITED - Ian Watson

"I think the competition will probably take him by (surprise), and that's from foreign managers I have spoken to over the years." Brendan Rodgers.

Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti or Manuel Pellegrini presumably did not participate in those conversations. All three won the Premier League title in their first year in England and Van Gaal's pedigree suggests he is capable of similar.

As Van Gaal has already highlighted, the United squad he inherited is "unbalanced" but the former Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has the time, money and managerial nous to remedy that in time to plot a title challenge.

Going from seventh to top is a huge ask but Liverpool themselves showed that with a spirited and healthy squad and few other priorities, it is far from impossible.

It is difficult to state just how abject United were last year, but the outlook and mood at Old Trafford is very different now with Van Gaal in charge compared to the dark days of David Moyes.

In only three weeks, Van Gaal has introduced a new formation that allows United's best players to prosper in their best positions and, stung from justified criticism last season, the squad has embraced the methods and philosophy of their new leader. Pre-season results ultimately count for little, but the manner of wins over Real Madrid, Liverpool, Roma and Inter Milan - all European big-hitters - has the players and fans excited for what the new season may bring.

Of the usual top six contenders, United will surely be the most improved, especially if they follow up the captures of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera with at least one defender and a midfielder. Liverpool, without Luis Suarez, will do well to match last season's standards, especially in the face of heightened threats from Arsenal, Chelsea and champions Manchester City.

United, with a strong, experienced coach, hungry players and quality new signings will not only be targeting the top four. The bulk of Van Gaal's squad won the title only a year ago and under the new regime, it is not beyond their capability to reclaim the Premier League trophy. Chelsea and City may prove to be too stong at this early stage of Van Gaal's reign, but United will be more than a match for a Suarez-less Liverpool.

LIVERPOOL - Sam Nightingale

While I have doubts as to whether Liverpool can win the title this season after the loss of prolific goalscorer Luis Suarez, I still feel they will against finish higher than United in the Premier League.

After guiding the Reds to seventh and second-placed finishes in his first two seasons, Brendan Rodgers has imposed his style on the squad, which has been strengthened by the arrivals of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Javier Manquillo, Lazar Markovic and Dejan Lovren. Rodgers no longer lacks strength in depth, and with more additions sure to come before the deadline, the manager has enough at his disposal to fight on all fronts.

Liverpool will be stronger for experiencing a title race, and though it ended in heartbreak in May, Steven Gerrard and Co. will benefit as they prepare for the new season.

Rodgers is much further along the line in terms of moulding his own team, and with the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling in Liverpool's ranks, the Reds frontline will still no doubt strike fear into Premier League defences. Van Gaal is at the start of his own rebuilding job at Old Trafford and with a new formation, and probably a few new players, I feel United have too much catching up to do before next spring.

WHO WILL BE OUR NEXT NO 7?

1. Marco Reus

2. Mario Balotelli

3. Xherdan Shaqiri

4. Ezquiel Lavezzi

5. Karim Benzema

6. Arda Turan

7. Pedro

8. Nicholas Gaitan

9. Wilfried Bony (belum cukup besor lg)

10. Jay Rodriguez (pun belum cukup besor)

Hmm kalau nk ikut pkembangan yg baru2,nama seperti Shaqiri,Gaitan & Bony yg paling ketara didengar skrg..mcm ada tanda2 positif..kalau antara 3 org tu, Shaqiri would be a great addition for us.Bony pun ok..Gaitan pun ok..hehe

(Gambar tiada kepala dibwh tiada kaitan antara yg hidup mahupun yg telah mati..harap maklum)

As Pepe Reina embarks on a £2 million move to Bayern Munich, we asked fans on Twitter to share their most memorable Reina moments from his Liverpool days.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Sunday, August 26, 2012: A banner of goalkeeper Jose Reina on Liverpool's famous Spion Kop pictured before the Premiership match against Manchester City at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Reina is set to complete his move to join up with former Barcelona teammate Pep Guardiola in the Bundeslia this week after spending the summer watching on miserably from the bench on Liverpool’s tour of the USA.

It was a Liverpool career that ended ugly, with fans far from surprised from this week’s news, but Reina was always a popular and big character on Merseyside.

Here fans share some of their favourite Reina memories — running the full length of the pitch to celebrate a David N’gog goal against Manchester United seemingly the favourite.

What was your favourite Pepe memory? Let us know in the comments section below.

Liverpool’s new teenage striker Divock Origi has told a French newspaper about the sheer amount of research the club had done before signing him this summer.

Video: Divock Origi speaks about his Liverpool move

Origi completed a £10 million move from Lille last week, but will spend 2014/15 at the French side continuing his football development.

The Belgian international enjoyed a successful World Cup campaign in Brazil, before returning to Europe to meet Liverpool officials.

Speaking to French sport daily L’Equipe , 19-year-old Origi spoke of his surprise at how much they already knew about him.

“Liverpool followed me for a long time,” Origi told the paper, with quotes picked up by the Daily Mail . “When I arrived in the offices there, they showed me cassettes of me in the Under-15s. Everyone knew me. I couldn’t believe it.

“When I arrived, I was impressed. Steven Gerrard told me it was a shame that I wouldn’t be there straight away as everyone was waiting impatiently for me. That means something. I also saw [Daniel] Sturridge, who was very nice.”

Having returned to France for pre-season training with Lille ahead of their Ligue 1 campaign, Origi now says game time is top of his agenda.

“Last year, I scored on my Ligue 1 debut before dropping out of the team a little later,” he added.

“That pushed me to work harder. I want to play a run of games, establish myself in the team, improve, discover European competition.”

Origi scored five goals in 29 league games for Belgium last season, though many were second-half substitute appearances.

Divock Origi: Spending the season back on loan at Lille after joining Liverpool

Divock Origi: Spending the season back on loan at Lille after joining Liverpool

Liverpool summer signing Divock Origi says manager Brendan Rodgers hopes to see him develop into one of the world’s best players.

The 19-year-old, who shot to prominence at the World Cup with Belgium, made a £10million switch to Anfield earlier this summer but was immediately loaned back to Ligue 1 as part of the deal.

Liverpool were reported to have beaten the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid to Origi’s signature, and were hopeful of him linking up with the squad immediately.

Instead, Lille were keen to get another season out of the young striker and he will concentrate his efforts with them for the new campaign after a whirlwind couple of months.

Although he is staying focused on the season ahead with Lille, Origi admitted to being thrilled by his brief experiences at Liverpool and revealed that Rodgers has high hopes for his career.

"He (Rodgers) wants me to become one of the best players in the world," Origi told L'Equipe.

"What I have experienced so far is amazing. Liverpool wanted me immediately but I still have to work.

"I have been welcomed in the Belgium team. I became friends with Adnan Januzaj.

"The World Cup was amazing for me with that goal scored at the Maracana (against Russia).

"And then Liverpool, when I joined Liverpool I was impressed.

"Steven Gerrard told me it was a shame I could not be here immediately and they were expecting me with patience. I also met Daniel Sturridge – that was nice."

Origi also admitted his surprise at Liverpool’s extensive knowledge of his career to date.

"Liverpool followed me for a long time," he said.

"When I was in the offices, they showed me my caps when I was under 15. Everyone knows me, I could not believe it."

The Belgium international scored six times in 35 appearances for Lille last season, helping them secure a place in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League with a third-place finish.

He said: "Anyway, I am at Lille and only that matters for now. Last season I scored in my very first match in Le Championnat before leaving the first team a bit later, which pushed me to work harder.

"I want to play a lot of matches, adapt more to the team and discover the European Cup."

Sebastian Coates: Hoping to impress after returning from injury

Sebastian Coates: Hoping to impress after returning from injury

Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates says he is hoping to stay and impress at Anfield after returning from injury, but admits the decision may not be down to him.

The 23-year-old, who joined in 2011, failed to make a single Premier League appearance last season as a knee injury kept him sidelined, before returning on loan to former club Nacional in January.

Coates is yet to truly establish himself on Merseyside and has featured just 24 times in all competitions during his three-year stay with the Reds.

The Uruguay international has been linked with a departure this summer following the arrival of Dejan Lovren from Southampton, but he plans on fighting for a place in the side despite the increased competition in defence.

"Last season was really difficult. I had a bad injury and after being out for so long, it's great to be back fit," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"I try always to give my best and I know I need to improve more on the other years that I've been in England.

"The manager is watching me closely - like he is with all the other players - and I need to keep performing well.

"I would like to stay at Liverpool and play, but that doesn't depend only on me. It depends on the manager and the club.

"They will decide what happens. After being out for so long, I need to play. If I do stay I want to play more than I did in the other years."

Uruguay team-mate Luis Suarez has already exited the club to join Barcelona this summer, but Coates insists that move will have no bearing on his own future.

"Just because Luis has gone, that doesn't mean that I want to go," he said.

"He's a different player and a different person. I must take care of my own future."

Liverpool have agreed a deal thought to be worth £2 million for the sale of Pepe Reina to Bayern Munich, it is being reported on Tuesday night.

CARDIFF, WALES - SATURDAY, MAY 13th, 2006: Liverpool's goakeeper Jose Reina celebrates saving the last penalty shot from West Ham United's Anton Ferdinand to win the FA Cup during the FA Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium. (Pic by Jason Roberts/Propaganda)

Reina has been searching for a new permanent club this summer after returning from a season-long loan spell with Napoli and now looks set to join former Barcelona teammate Pep Guardiola, manager at Bayern.

He was taken on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the USA, but failed to play a single minute with Simon Mignolet, Brad Jones and youngster Danny Ward named ahead of him.

The 31-year-old Spanish international spent eight seasons at Liverpool under Rafa Benitez, Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and Brendan Rodgers, before Mignolet was brought in to replace him.

He made 395 appearances for the Reds since his move from Villarreal in 2006, playing his last game against QPR in May 2013— also Jamie Carragher’s final game for the club.

Having been angling for a move to Barcelona for some time, Reina penned a goodbye letter to fans upon leaving Liverpool for his loan spell at Napoli, burning all bridges with Rodgers.

Nevertheless, Reina was a popular figure on Merseyside and leaves with plenty of passionate memories.

Thanks for everything, Pepe. You’ll Never Walk Alone.

When Liverpool fans arrive at Anfield for Sunday’s final friendly, against Borussia Dortmund, and indeed the first game of the season to Southampton a week later, there will be something missing – the houses behind the Main Stand!

lothair

Demolition on the empty houses on Lothair Road immediately behind the Main Stand started at the beginning of the summer and the final house was demolished last week. The work is being carried out by the City council ahead of Liverpool’s proposed stadium expansion.

There’s also a large area in the Main Stand / Kop corner that has been cleared ready for work to begin, pencilled in for late 2014 / early July 2015. Meanwhile, demolition will continue to the houses on the other side of Lothair Road and the closes side of Alory Road, plus a small number on Anfield Road and Rockfield Road.

Due to this, changes have been made to access roads around Anfield and Liverpool have released the following information.

Important Changes for Fans Accessing Anfield Stadium on Matchdays

- Anfield regeneration work continues – housing demolition means changes to some pedestrian routes in and around Anfield Stadium

- No pedestrian access is permitted on Rockfield Road, Back Rockfield Road or Lothair Road

- Access via car, bus and taxi will not be affected and will remain as per last season

- Routine road closures prior to kick-off remain as per last season

- Changes to take place starting from Sunday 10th August 2014, Liverpool FC Vs Borussia Dortmund.

Fans making their way to Anfield can expect to see some significant changes around Anfield stadium as part of the regeneration plan for the area.

The current work and erection of construction hoardings adjacent to the Stadium means that pedestrian access via Rockfield Road, Back Rockfield Road and Lothair Road will no longer be accessible by foot or vehicle. Fans will be rerouted via Anfield Road and Walton Breck Road.

While work is ongoing LFC would like to ask fans for their support by keeping to the designated pedestrian access roads and allow extra time to get to the stadium.

New signage will be positioned around the stadium to direct fans and additional stewards and police officers will be present on matchdays to help reroute pedestrians and vehicles to minimise disruption.

The routine road closures, Walton Breck Road (10 minutes prior to kick-off) Anfield Road (45 minutes prior to kick-off) will remain in place and it is advised that residents with parking permits should continue to clearly display them in their vehicles to allow direct access during matchdays.

Those residents without parking permits travelling to and from their homes on a matchday by taxi are advised to carry some ID which displays their name and address details to show to the matchday stewards, ensuring access is permitted.

There will be no changes to car parking access and facilities, taxi drop off points or key bus services including Merseytravel’s Soccer Bus and 917 services.

The Club is encouraging all fans to plan their route to the stadium in advance of the Borussia Dortmund fixture at Anfield on August 10th and to allow extra time for their journey. All fans are advised to be at the stadium 30 minutes prior to kick-off.

Map and key information on the changes can be found here.

LFC will continue to advise supporters and local residents of any changes that may affect access to Anfield Stadium.

When Liverpool fans arrive at Anfield for Sunday’s final friendly, against Borussia Dortmund, and indeed the first game of the season to Southampton a week later, there will be something missing – the houses behind the Main Stand!
