Jordan Henderson: Believes Brendan Rodgers has been "fantastic" for both himself and Liverpool

Jordan Henderson insists Brendan Rodgers is the right man to lead Liverpool back into the top four despite a disappointing campaign.

Liverpool followed their title challenge of 2013/14 with a frustrating season last time out, finishing sixth in the Premier League while exiting both domestic cups at the semi-final stage.

Henderson, who is training with England ahead of a friendly with Ireland and European Qualifier against Slovenia, says Rodgers has been instrumental in his development as a footballer after initially struggling following his £20m move to Anfield from Sunderland.

And he insists Rodgers, who this week lost backroom staff Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh in the wake of Liverpool's indifferent season, is the right man to revive the club's fortunes next term.

"Of course I want him to stay" said the midielder. "I have spoke highly of Brendan ever since he came to the club. He has been fantastic for me and for Liverpool."

"This (coming) season is a big season for everyone involved. We all know that. We want to be finishing high as possible in the league and winning trophies.

"We have a great group of lads with great potential but I think it's time now we started showing that potential in the Premier League and also in cups.

"Getting to semi-finals is great but we need to be getting to finals and winning trophies. That is what we will be looking to do next season."

Colin Pascoe, Liverpool assistant manager

Colin Pascoe, Liverpool assistant manager

Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe is set to follow Mike Marsh in leaving the club, according to Sky sources.

The departure of Pascoe, who had 12 months remaining on his contract, follows the decision not to renew the contract of first-team coach Mike Marsh.

Rodgers brought Pascoe with him from Swansea when he became Liverpool manager in June 2012 but he has gone as part of the "comprehensive plan for improvement" agreed after Tuesday's meeting between Rodgers, chairman Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon.

Speculation has already begun over who will replace Marsh with former players Sami Hyypia, the ex-Bayer Leverkusen and Brighton manager, and Bolo Zenden, who served as interim assistant manager to Rafa Benitez at Chelsea in 2012-13 season, two early names suggested.

Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, whose position had looked uncertain, will continue in his current role.

Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe is set to leave the club according to the Sky sources.

The departure of the Welshman, who had 12 months remaining on his contract, follows talks between Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, chairman Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon.

Rodgers was close to Pascoe, whom he brought with him from Swansea in June 2012. But he has fallen victim to the "comprehensive plan for improvement" agreed after Tuesday's meeting.

The overhaul of backroom staff had already begun with first-team coach Mike Marsh's contract not being renewed.

Marsh’s contract was due to expire this month and Liverpool informed the 45-year-old that they will not be renewing it.

Liverpool will replace Marsh in due course, but goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, whose position had looked uncertain, will continue in his current role.
