Jamie Redknapp believes even finishing fourth would be a great achievement for Liverpool this season despite their abundance of forward talent.

For the first time in a number of years, Liverpool have been spoken about as genuine title contenders this season.

They have two of the Premier League's most prolific forwards in Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, not to mention the support acts of Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling, but Redknapp believes fitting in the in-form quartet could prove a problem for Brendan Rodgers.

He told Sky Sports: "It's an exciting time for Liverpool fans at the moment, not least because of the brand of football Brendan Rodgers' men are playing on the pitch.

"When everyone's fit, Liverpool have got more attacking options than they've had in an awfully long time and in Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling they have players that can win you matches.

"Against Stoke last Sunday the game was getting stretched and Liverpool's attacking style left them open at times but it's great to watch and I think that's what Liverpool fans want.

"For a few years under Rafa Benitez and Gerard Houllier that wasn't the case; during that time Liverpool wouldn't throw men forward like they do at the moment.

"The form of those forwards leaves Rodgers with a dilemma this weekend, though. Does he, at home against an Aston Villa side struggling for confidence (who Liverpool are 2/9 to beat), go with both Sturridge - who scored on his return from injury at the Britannia - and Suarez?

"That could mean benching Coutinho, who has done really well while Sturridge was out or replacing Jordan Henderson, who's been in great form, or maybe Lucas.

"Because Liverpool aren't involved in Europe they have got the luxury of playing Saturday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday. Although that gives players the chance to rest, recover and get ready for the next game, it also causes you a problem because you can't give everyone game time.

"It's a tough decision for Rodgers but essentially it's the sort of problem he wants to have."

Liverpool did top of the table last month but back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea in December saw the Reds fall off the pace.

They are now six points behind Arsenal but remain in a Champions League spot going into Saturday's game against Aston Villa.

Despite the confidence in the Anfield camp, Redknapp suspects Rodgers would take a fourth-placed finish if offered it now.

He added: "Liverpool have been getting good results despite Sturridge's absence and people are talking about them being in the race for the title.

"That's where they should be and what Liverpool fans want - but this is unchartered territory for a lot of their players.

"I wonder if Rodgers, deep down, would take fourth place and a Champions League spot now. My guess is he would.

"We all want to be successful in football and last week Samir Nasri said Liverpool are the best side City have played against this season.

"But, if you consider where Liverpool were at the start of this campaign, finishing in the top four, given the quality of the other teams going for a Champions League spot, would be a good achievement for them.

"There's Chelsea, who have spent an awful lot of money, Manchester City, who are incredibly strong and getting better and better, an Arsenal side in a great position, Tottenham, who look like a better side under Tim Sherwood, plus Everton and Manchester United, so a Champions League spot would be a real mark of how far Liverpool have progressed this year.

"Liverpool have got Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea to play at home, too, which gives them a chance of scoring some vital points over some of their fellow top four challengers.

"However, there's a long way to go and a lot of tough teams to overcome."

Daripada penilaian in, jelas sekali Suarez adalah satu-satunya pemain Liverpool yang berada di top 20 senarai tersebut, sekaligus menguatkan lagi spekulasi yang &039;penjualan Suarez ke mana-mana kelab sekarang ini adalah mustahil.&039;

Liverpool have, according to a report, registered their interest in Southampton duo Luke Shaw and Jay Rodriguez.

The Telegraph‘s Matt Law writes that Liverpool, along with Tottenham and Man United, have “asked to be kept informed about the situation” regarding highly-rated left-back Shaw, following the departure of Saints chairman Nicola Cortese this week.

Cortese quit the club on Wednesday night and his departure has lead to much speculation surrounding the south coast club and it’s star players.

Liverpool have been linked with forward Rodriguez before, reportedly showing interest in the summer while Luis Suarez‘s situation was uncertain.

While midfielder Adam Lallana was speculatively linked with a move to Anfield in November too.

18-year-old Shaw would be one player most supporters would like to see Liverpool sign to finally provide a solution to the long-term problem area at left-back. He is without his fair share of suitors though with all of the top English sides interested – with only Chelsea and Man City likely to pay the reported £20 million fee.

Liverpool registering their interest in Shaw is, if you care to take the cynical view, like saying they want to win a football match – pretty obvious.

On Rodriguez, the 24-year-old English forward, Law explains that his contractual situation is currently in limbo, explaining that “Rodriguez has two years remaining on his contract, which is worth around £25,000 a week, but his impressive performances have attracted admiring glances from Liverpool and Arsenal.”

The Reds have had mixed fortunes against Aston Villa over the years, and Henry Jackson (@OnFootballTweet) looks back at the last five clashes between the two sides at Anfield.

LIVERPOOL 1-3 ASTON VILLA (15th December 2012)

Brendan Rodgers‘ side endured a terrible afternoon at the hands of Paul Lambert’s men in the most recent Anfield meeting between the two sides.

Christian Benteke gave the visitors the lead in the 29th minute with a tidy finish, before Andreas Weimann’s beautifully-worked effort doubled their advantage before the break.

Benteke out-muscled Liverpool’s defence to put Villa 3-0 up after just 51 minutes, and although Steven Gerrard scored a late effort for Liverpool, it was a dark day for the Reds.

LIVERPOOL 1-1 ASTON VILLA (7th April 2012)

Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool had lost three games in a row prior to this clash during the 2011/12 season, and although they stopped the rot, a draw was still a poor result on the day.

Chris Herd fired in a shot early on to give Villa the lead, and it stayed that way until Luis Suarez came to the Reds’ rescue late in the day.

The Uruguayan, who had hit the post and had two penalty appeals turned down, found the net after Daniel Agger‘s header had come back off the crossbar. The hosts pushed for a winner, but couldn’t pick up all three points.

LIVERPOOL 3-0 ASTON VILLA (6th December 2010)

Gerard Houllier returned to Anfield as Villa’s manager, but Roy Hodgson’s side ensured it was a miserable return to his former club for the Frenchman.

Liverpool were without key players Gerrard and Fernando Torres, but still cruised to an easy win. David Ngog and Ryan Babel, not two of the most popular players to have played for the Reds, both scored early to put their side in control at half-time.

Maxi Rodriguez added a superb third early in the second half, finishing brilliantly after good work from Ngog.

LIVERPOOL 1-3 ASTON VILLA (24th August 2009)

The 2009/10 season was meant to be the year Liverpool won the Premier League, having pushed Manchester United so close in 2008/09, but Villa ensured Rafa Bentitez’s side continued their poor start to the campaign.

Ashley Young’s free-kick deflected wickedly off Lucas to give Martin O’Neill’s team the lead, before Curtis Davies’ header doubled their advantage just before the break.

Torres gave Liverpool hope with a close-range finish with less than 20 minutes remaining, before Young converted a penalty, awarded after Gerrard fouled Nigel Reo-Coker, to put the game to bed.

LIVERPOOL 5-0 ASTON VILLA (22nd March 2009)

The 2008/2009 season was arguably Liverpool’s best ever Premier League campaign, and their destruction of Villa nearly five years ago was an absolute joy to watch.

With United having slipped up away to Fulham the day before, Benitez’s men knew a win would crank the pressure up on Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. They duly obliged.

Dirk Kuyt and Albert Riera both emphatically found the net to put the Reds 2-0 up in no time, before Gerrard’s penalty virtually had the game won at the interval.

The skipper added a free-kick and a penalty, which saw Brad Friedel sent off for bringing down Torres, to complete his hat-trick on a fantastic afternoon for Gerrard and his teammates.
