Newly-installed England skipper Wayne Rooney is ‘a natural leader’, according to midfielder Jordan Henderson.

The Liverpool player has backed the Manchester United striker to be a great captain as he replaces Steven Gerrard, who retired from the international game following the World Cup.

England manager Roy Hodgson named Rooney as his captain and Henderson said: "I think Wayne was the ideal choice.

"He is a natural leader in the dressing room and also on the field as well.

“I think it was a really good appointment and I don't think it'll change the way he is.

"He will keep doing everything he always does, he gives 100 per cent whether in training or in matches.

"He will help the younger lads and I am sure he will have a lot of respect in the dressing room."

With England currently preparing to face Norway at Wembley in a friendly on Wednesday, Rooney is the only member of the 22-man squad with more than 50 senior caps to his name.

As for the national team going forward, Henderson added: "This is the first time the group has been together since the World Cup.

“We've got to deal with it and put it to bed now and move on and look towards the future.

"We felt as though there were some positives out of the games we did play. Obviously, overall, it was very disappointing because we came home far too early.”

Luis Suarez made a quick trip to Liverpool on Monday morning for the first time since joining Barcelona this summer.

The Uruguayan international, who scored 82 goals in 133 appearances for the Reds, arrived at Melwood to say goodbye to some old friends.

Suarez was seen by Sky Sports driving into Melwood shortly before Steven Gerrard posted this photo to his Instagram account:

Later Suarez tweeted to explain the flying visit…

Upon leaving the club in July, Suarez thanked the club and fans for their support during his three and a half year stay on Merseyside.

“It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain,” he said. “Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

“But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.

“I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife’s family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.

“Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

All the best for the future, Luis.

Mario Balotelli: Liverpool striker made his debut against Tottenham on Sunday

Mario Balotelli: Liverpool striker made his debut against Tottenham on Sunday

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is confident Italy international Mario Balotelli will make a positive impact at Anfield.

The 24-year-old missed a few opportunities to score on his Liverpool debut in the 3-0 victory over Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

But Gerrard believes the former AC Milan and Manchester City striker, who cost the Reds £16million last week, will be given time to settle at the club.

"With all due respect to Manchester City and AC Milan, Mario is going to get a different kind of support here," the Reds captain said.

"These are the best fans in the world and traditionally they always get behind our strikers. I've told him it's there for him.

"If he plays well and works hard for these supporters, they'll get behind him. He won't have experienced support like that he's about to get.

"He's a big, strong lad. He held it up terrifically well. All eyes were on him and I thought he was a terrific team player.

"He did a lot of ugly work for the team and showed some really good touches. You've got to remember that he's only had three lots of 45 minutes in pre-season, so with game time and getting used to the manager and players around him, he's going to be a terrific player for us."

Diego Costa: Scored twice in Chelsea's win at Everton

Diego Costa: Scored twice in Chelsea's win at Everton

Chelsea's Diego Costa and Liverpool's Alberto Moreno join three Stoke stars and two from Swansea in our latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Check out TEAMtalk's Team of the Week and then let us know your top XI using the story comment facility at the bottom of the article.

TEAMtalk's Top Men (4-2-3-1): Green, Bardsley, Shawcross, Shackell, Moreno; Sterling, Schneiderlin, Sigurdsson, Dyer; Crouch, Costa.

Robert Green - QPR

It was Charlie Austin's goal that ultimately earned QPR their first win back in the Premier League against Sunderland on Saturday, but Harry Redknapp's men could easily have gone into the international break still pointless were it not for Green, who made a series of excellent saves.

Phil Bardsley - Stoke City

Unsurprisingly, Stoke's entire team was outstanding defensively in their shock 1-0 win at Manchester City.

Bardsley still managed to stand out, however, with an incredibly energetic display up and down the right flank at the Etihad. Keeping David Silva quiet is no mean feat but Bardsley helped make sure the Spaniard never had any space to operate in.

Ryan Shawcross - Stoke City

Coming a few days after he was left out of the latest England squad - and on the same weekend that saw Phil Jagielka's Everton and Gary Cahill's Chelsea involved in a nine-goal game - Shawcross' performance at Manchester City has led to plenty of people questioning Roy Hodgson's thinking.

The Stoke skipper was sensational at the Etihad, organising his troops to brilliant effect to restrict the champions to very few opportunities. When they did get a sight of goal, Shawcross was usually first on the scene to avert danger.

Jason Shackell - Burnley

There is no doubting that Manchester United have not clicked into gear under Louis van Gaal but with Angel Di Maria added to the team for Saturday's trip to Burnley, there is equally little doubt that the Clarets did a magnificent job in keeping them at bay.

No-one played a bigger role in ensuring that than Shackell, who was utterly imperious in the air.

Alberto Moreno - Liverpool

Left-back was a problem position for Liverpool last season but, judging by Moreno's performance at Tottenham on Sunday, it won't be one this season.

The Spaniard impressed defensively - shocked even - but it was his driving run and superb finish for the Reds' third goal that really stood out. Brendan Rodgers has clearly added yet another attacking threat to his side.

Raheem Sterling - Liverpool

One attacking threat that needs no introduction is Sterling, who is quickly developing into one of the Premier League's finest attacking players.

He scored Liverpool's opener at White Hart Lane, should have bagged another later on after a brilliant dribble and was a constant threat to the Spurs defence throughout with his direct running.

Morgan Schneiderlin - Southampton

Southampton have lost a number of good players over the summer but arguably none better than Schneiderlin, who was their conductor-in-chief even before the exits of Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and co.

The Frenchman dominated both defensively and offensively at West Ham on Saturday and fully merited the two goals that helped Saints to a 3-1 win.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - Swansea City

After just three games back at Swansea, Sigurdsson has set up as many goals (four) as he managed in 58 appearances for Tottenham.

Exactly why he failed to consistently hit top form for Spurs is open to debate, but he certainly doesn't struggle to do so for Swansea and was again exceptional in their 3-0 win at West Brom.

Nathan Dyer - Swansea City

It was Dyer that benefited from Sigurdsson's assist against the Baggies to put his side 1-0 up, and the same player that latched on to a flick-on from the Icelander to make it 3-0 in the second half.

His pace makes him a handful for any Premier League defence - and for West Brom's he was simply unplayable.

Peter Crouch - Stoke City

Strikers are generally judged on the amount of goals they score, but Crouch did so much good work outside of the box in Stoke's win at Manchester City that he had to be included in our XI.

He made an incredible eight headed clearances out of his own box but his ability to hold the ball up at the other end proved equally as crucial on the day for Stoke, who were able to counter-attack effectively as a result.

He may not be renowned for his mobility, but Crouch covered more ground than any other player on the pitch - missing a header to put his side 2-0 ahead was the only blot on his copybook.

Diego Costa - Chelsea

It may seem strange to include only one Chelsea player in our team after they scored six at Everton, but they were so poor defensively that nobody in defence or midfield will have left Goodison without angry words from Jose Mourinho.

Costa, however, again showed why the Portuguese coach paid big money to sign him over the summer, scoring two goals of the highest quality in the first and last minutes.

Today is the final day of the summer transfer window, and Liverpool are expected to do plenty of outgoing business throughout the much-talked about ‘Deadline Day’. Henry Jackson runs you through the potential ins and outs on what could be a frantic day.

Transfer deadline day has become one of the most eagerly-anticipated days in the football calender, with plenty of business done right up until the 11pm cut-off point. Today will be no different.

On deadline days down the years Liverpool have announced both the signings and departures of many top class players, whether it be Luis Suarez joining the club in 2011 or Fernando Torres moving to Chelsea on the same day, but how will it pan out this time round?

Here are the players we expect to be heavily involved in today’s transfer circus.

INS

SERGIO ROMERO

Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that he only really needs to make one more addition to his current squad, and another goalkeeper is most certainly the key area Liverpool need to strengthen.

The Daily Mirror reported on Sunday that the club were close to reaching an agreement for the signing of Romero, who started for Argentina in this summer’s World Cup final and was on loan at Monaco from Sampdoria last season.

The 27-year-old would be a terrific addition, and an undoubted upgrade on Brad Jones, who is not good enough for a top four club. Romero would add greater competition to Simon Mignolet, and it would make the Belgian up his level even more knowing his place in the side was not as assured as it is at the moment.

There is every chance Romero will be the only incoming player at Anfield today.

OUTS

LUCAS LEIVA

NEW YORK, USA - Wednesday, July 30, 2014: Liverpool's Lucas Leiva scores a penalty against Manchester City during the International Champions Cup Group B match at the Yankee Stadium on day ten of the club's USA Tour. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Lucas’ future has been unclear for a while now, but his exclusion from Liverpool’s squad against Manchester City last Monday, coupled with the Mirror reporting a loan move to Napoli was close to being finalised, seem to signal his days on Merseyside are numbered.

With Steven Gerrard clearly first-choice in defensive midfield, and the likes of Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen and Emre Can also considered more important players now, the 27-year-old would be wise to join former boss Rafa Benitez in Serie A.

Injuries have cruelly hampered the Brazilian’s progress in recent years, and he may well have played the last of his 244 appearances in a Reds shirt.

FABIO BORINI

DUBLIN, REPUBLIC OF IRELAND - Wednesday, May 14, 2014: Liverpool's Fabio Borini celebrates scoring the second goal against Shamrock Rovers during a postseason friendly match at Lansdowne Road. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Borini’s future has been up in the air all summer, but it has become clear that Rodgers does not see him as part of his plans this season and beyond.

According to the Daily Star , the 23-year-old Italian is wanted by AC Milan, Sunderland, where he spent last season on loan, and QPR.

Liverpool would be happier to sell him on a permanent deal, but if a loan offer comes in, which seems to be the more likely outcome, they will surely accept it.

Borini made 20 appearances in his only full season at Anfield to date (2012/13), scoring just twice.

SUSO

The Daily Star claim that Milan are interested in taking Suso to the club on loan, with a view to a permanent deal should he impress.

The 20-year-old has struggled to become a key part of Rodgers’ plans, and with Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana all ahead of him in the pecking order in attacking midfield, it’s hard to see that changing any time soon.

The Spaniard has only managed 20 first-team appearances since arriving in 2010, and expect a deal to potentially go through before the 11pm deadline.

OUSSAMA ASSAIDI

JAKARTA, INDONESIA - Saturday, July 20, 2013: Liverpool's Oussama Assaidi in action against an Indonesia XI during a preseason friendly at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Although some may be surprised to hear it, Assaidi is still a Liverpool player. The 26-year-old has no future at the club, however, and there is every chance he will leave today.

Stoke have maintained a constant interest in the Moroccan wide man this summer, after he impressed on loan there last season, and Mark Hughes could well get his man at the eleventh hour.

Assaidi has managed just 12 appearances for the Reds since joining from Heerenveen in the summer of 2012, failing to score in that time.

SEBASTIAN COATES

NEW YORK, USA - Wednesday, July 30, 2014: Liverpool's Sebastian Coates in action against Manchester City's Stevan Jovetic during the International Champions Cup Group B match at the Yankee Stadium on day ten of the club's USA Tour. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Despite some very impressive performances during pre-season, Coates is set to join his Uruguayan compatriot Gus Poyet at Sunderland on a season-long loan, according to the Daily Mail .

With Dejan Lovren, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure all preferred at centre-back by Rodgers, the 23-year-old will be a peripheral figure if he stays at Liverpool in 2014/15.

The Reds boss has said already that he would rather his fringe players leave in order to get the best out of their careers, and Coates’ ability is undoubtedly deserving of playing regular first-team action.

He arrived from Nacional in 2011, but injuries and form have limited him to just 24 appearances in a Reds shirt.

Liverpool’s Transfer Deadline Day: Who Could Go Where

Unknown   at  14:53  No comments

According to the Daily Star , the 23-year-old Italian is wanted by AC Milan, Sunderland, where he spent last season on loan, and QPR.

Totenham vs Liverpool TOTLIV (0-3)

Organisasi Liverpool Membunuh Spurs !

1. Permulaan

3. Liverpool Third Man Release System

4. Sterling Role . Attack From Down Middle

Sterling sepatunya menjaringkan gol kedua peribadi namun , wrong decision and wrong technique selepas gelecekan yang bagus. Sistem attack from down middle berkesan dengan Sterling dari belakang dan twin striker tidak terlalu di atas untuk memulakan serangan.

5. SPURS weak game Organization

Spurs ibarat tak terurus, mereka terus cuba memenangi flanker . Back 4 lemah composure track back dan closing down juga lemah.

6. Battle of Zonal Marking

Inil dinamakan tactical discipline. BR dah belajar daripada musim lepas. Mendahului 3 gol bermakna, kuatkan organisai dan disipiln bertahan dan bukan menyerang. Ingat lagi perlawanan Crsytal Palace???

Tenrnyata ia adalah taktikal untuk 3 mata bila Can dimasukan untuk menambah more physical presence di tengah..

7. Manquiilo Moreno

Tak lengkap kalau tak diulas fullback Liverpool malam tadi.

Shot kelas dunia menewaskan Llloris. Decision making Moreno tepat, tidak teragagk agak. Mereka track back cepat bila diserang.

Kesimpulan saya mudah , Liverpool menang kerana good organization + discipline.

My MOTM : Moreno !
