Manuel Pellegrini: Delighted with the quality of his squad

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes his squad remains the strongest in the top-flight as they prepare for their first Premier League home game of the season.

The reigning champions host last season's runners-up, Liverpool, at the Etihad Stadium live on Sky Sports 1HD on Monday night.

Pellegrini’s men are second favourites to retain their title with, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea heading the betting following their recruitment of Spanish duo Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa.

But the Chilean insists he would not trade his squad for any other in the Premier League.

“I think we always have to be better, we have to improve every season,” he said. “It doesn't matter what happens with the other squads.

"Here in the Premier League you always have four or five strong teams that can win the title and if we want to continue winning titles, of course, we must improve.

"But I always say my players are the best players in the Premier League and we have the strongest squad, not only attackers but also defending, and in the whole squad.

"Other teams also have strong squads but if you are analysing the players I prefer mine."

"As a manager, the most difficult decisions are when you don't have players.

"When you have good players it's easy because when you have so many games in the season you need to change them.

"Normally we will play around eight matches a month so it doesn't matter. It's important to win titles."

City have bolstered their squad with the additions of defenders Eliaquim Mangala and Bacary Sagna, midfielder Fernando and goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

England midfielder Frank Lampard has also signed for the club on loan from New York City and Pellegrini has welcomed the extra competition for places for a spot in City’s starting XI.

Mario Balotelli’s £16 million move to Liverpool is expected to be completed in the next couple of days, but the Reds have another player oozing in self-confidence.

CHICAGO, USA - Sunday, July 27, 2014: Liverpool's Lazar Markovic in action against Olympiacos during the International Champions Cup Group B match at the Soldier Field Stadium on day seven of the club's USA Tour. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Lazar Markovic, Liverpool’s £20 million summer signing from Benfica has had an extraordinary last 12 months, making two big money moves in quick succession.

Just 20-years-old, Liverpool will be the third club of Markovic’s career — and he certainly thinks highly of himself as he embarks on the Premier League for the first time.

“I was voted one of the best players in Serbia and Portugal and I hope I will be recognised as one of the best in the Premier League,” he says in The Sunday Telegraph and on the club’s official website. “I believe I will.”

Markovic’s high standards could well have solid foundations. One of the stars of Partizan Belgrade and then Benfica, he helped both teams to league titles — the former on three occasions.

“I believe in myself and in the luck that’s following me,” he had said in the Liverpool Echo earlier last week. “I believe in the people in charge of my career. That is why I go with my dreams.”

Markovic was on the verge of joining Chelsea a year ago before Benfica snapped him up on a five-year contract. He enjoyed a successful season in Portugal, with five goals in 26 Primeira Liga appearances.

Describing how Markovic plays and how he will fit into the system at Liverpool, This Is Anfield’s Ben Twelves recently wrote:

Markovic is labelled as being a ‘winger’, although he is perhaps better described as a ‘wide forward’. He operates comfortably from either flank but predominantly plays on the right for the Portuguese champions, where he frequently drifts inside to join in more central areas to dictate play.

[..]

He likes to drift into central positions from out wide, where he can receive the ball in pockets of space and is able to turn and run at the opposing defence using his electric pace and close ball control which makes him so hard to defend against in 1v1 situations.

Markovic was ruled out of action for much of Liverpool’s pre-season campaign, and the opening game of the season against Southampton at Anfield last Sunday.

Back in full training with the squad this week though, Markovic could make his first appearance for the Reds with a baptism of fire on Monday night as Brendan Rodgers takes his side to Manchester City in the Premier League.

But opposition doesn’t phase Markovic, who is confident Liverpool can march to title glory this season.

He added, “Liverpool are one of the best clubs in the world and I felt last season they were the strongest team in the Premier League. It was bad luck that they didn’t win it.

“I watched Liverpool all the time last season. They were very good and luck played its part as to why they didn’t win the league. They should have been champions.”

He also had a charming comment for Kopites ahead of his first competitive game for the club, “The way the Liverpool fans are appealed to me. I have been lucky enough to have been at Partizan and Benfica, two clubs with passionate supporters.”

Can Markovic become one of the Premier League’s best players? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, or on our Liverpool FC Forums .

Steven Gerrard believes Wayne Rooney (l) should be the next England captain

Steven Gerrard believes Wayne Rooney (l) should be the next England captain

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard believes Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney should succeed him as England captain.

Gerrard retired from international football following the World Cup in Brazil, and speculation is rife on who will take the England armband.

England manager Roy Hodgson will name his new skipper on Thursday when he announces his squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland on September 8 and it is expected that Rooney, who was recently installed as Manchester United captain by Louis van Gaal, will get the nod.

Gerrard said in the Mail on Sunday: "Wayne is a natural leader. Aside from being a top player, one who commands respect within the group, Wayne is passionate about representing his country and won't be fazed by the responsibility.

"Before a game, he is one of the most vocal players in the dressing room. He wouldn't be afraid of speaking up and talking to someone one to one, telling them what is expected.

"When he was my deputy, he gave me great support and during our 11 years with England I saw him blossom.

“There were times when, as a young lad, he didn't always say the right things in the dressing room but he has matured and chooses his words carefully."

Rooney appears to be the obvious choice given that Frank Lampard, who was England's vice-captain in Brazil, is no longer a guaranteed starter for the national side.

The 28-year-old United talisman captained England in a friendly against Brazil in Qatar in November 2009 and in a World Cup qualifier against San Marino in October 2012.

Brendan Rodgers excels in getting the most out of his players, squeezing individuals for everything that they can offer – can he do the same with Mario? Danny Gallagher ponders.

CHARLOTTE, USA - Saturday, August 2, 2014: AC Milan's Mario Balotelli before the International Champions Cup Group B match against Liverpool at the Bank of America Stadium on day thirteen of the club's USA Tour. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Imagine you were offered a hand-grenade, pin freshly pulled, poised to explode at any given moment.

When said explosion arrives, the resulting outcome will comprise either a cacophony of exhilaration, fascination and ultimately success or – rather – anguish, frustration and a painfully disappointing after-burn.

It’s a 50-50 shot, one or the other. What do you choose? Do you risk it?

This is precisely the situation of which Liverpool now find themselves in.

Mario Balotelli, one of the grandest solo personalities in world football for both right and wrong reasons, is on the precipice of completing his move to Anfield; so out of the blue that it is almost incomprehensible.

The dust had hardly settled after Brendan Rodgers’ pre-season remarks of Balotelli “categorically” not becoming a Liverpool player, yet so much has to be taken with a pinch of salt in football these days that you would be wise-thought to invest in said area of the condiment industry, such is its constant use.

I ask you to just take a moment to come to terms with the fact that, barring any Loic Remy-esque capitulation of formalities, as from next week Mario Balotelli will officially be a Liverpool player.

I’d take a strong guess that I’m not the only person who will take a fair while to comprehend that notion.

Lone Ranger

What is most striking about this deal is the extreme juxtaposition of a club such as Liverpool taking on a character like Balotelli.

The club ethos has always been one of unity and collective devotion to the cause; agendas that certainly are not readily associated with the Italian forward.

Even during his time at Manchester City, it almost seemed as if Balotelli was never truly their player, such is the scale of the solo-character of the Palermo-born frontman.

It is difficult to observe ‘super Mario’ in any other way than an irrepressible livewire drowning in his own limelight.

In some ways, Balotelli is reminiscent of a character from childhood – the unknown kid who asks to join in on your game of football down the park as a youngster – nobody really knows him yet he turns up, owns the show and leaves people talking. He plays for himself and for his love of the sport.

If one goal adequately encapsulates the being that is Mario Balotelli, it came in February of this year as Milan faced Bologna at the San Siro.

With time ebbing away on 85th minute, an intercepted pass came Balotelli’s way around 25-30 yards out.

A deft touch out of the feet was followed by a thunderbolt, picking out the top corner at high velocity.

Apparent minimal effort yet something the best of us could not do given 30 attempts. And yes, that is with somebody ‘holding your beer’.

The game changed at the drop of a pin, one master stroke from Balotelli and the tie was won – three points in the bag.

The celebration of such a goal you ask?

A reserved stroll back to the centre-circle, hands on hips whilst swamped by jubilant team-mates; the whole episode reflecting sharply everything that makes Mario Balotelli, Mario Balotelli.

It was a disbelieving goal that the young Italian simply knew that he was more than capable of scoring.

Man Management

One of the key areas of discussion regarding Balotelli is the extraordinary talent that he possesses – and the fact that he is more than astutely aware of it.

It is now up to the renowned man-management skills of Brendan Rodgers to assist in fully utilising such a talent in order for the 6ft 3 powerhouse to become one of the world’s most potent strikers.

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK - Wednesday, July 16, 2014: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers during a preseason friendly match against Brøndby at Brøndby Stadion. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Other managers have tried and sadly failed.

Reservations may be held regarding the extent of Balotelli’s selfish nature, yet, if one thing can be categorically certain – he is a cold blooded winner.

Euro 2012 certified this.

As the tears flowed from the eyes of the Italian following the defeat to Spain, the world witnessed a rare case of the media’s favourite tyrant expelling raw emotion as the nation he greatly carried came so perilously close to silverware.

Balotelli cast an imperial presence over the 2012 tournament, giving a glimpse of just what his potential laden abilities were are to achieve.

His heartache of coming within touching distance of European domination speaks a lot about his character. Irrespective of his faults and controversies, here is a boy still driven by success.

It is strange to think however that somebody as dominant in the headlines as Balotelli could still be so mysterious.

The Italian has admitted in several interviews – both during and after his stint at Manchester City – that he perceives himself as a shy individual who, despite popular belief, does not enjoy the constant avalanche of attention endlessly surging his way.

Who therefore is to say though that Balotelli will not fit in seamlessly to the project that is well under way at Anfield?

The only judge here can undoubtedly be time.

Robbie Fowler, Craig Bellamy and the recently departed Luis Suarez were all characters of particular controversy during their times spent at Anfield, yet each enjoyed healthy striking form and built a strong and emotional rapport with the adoring Kop.

All genius apparently comes tinged with madness and at 24 years old, costing a mere £16 million and proven upon every level of world football, the logic in welcoming ‘super Mario’ on board makes resounding sense.

The media hype will follow the returning prodigal son, drumming up anticipation of his potential upcoming misdemeanors.

Others may even encourage it. Joining the culture of Liverpool football club however could be exactly what Balotelli is crying out for.

Ignore the Suárez comparisons – should the Italian sign on the dotted line as expected, a new era begins.

Rodgers excels in getting the most out of his players, squeezing individuals for everything that they can offer.

Let’s just hope that come the end of the 2014/2015 season, the Northern Irishman has succeeded in his task once again and is happily querying – ‘Why Always Me?’

POST MATCH VERDICT AND ANALYSIS

**khas utk peminat Arsenal, pandangan Tanpa bias.

Matchday 2

Everton v Arsenal (2-2)

(23.8.2014 , Goodison Park)

axellotacticalanalysis EveArs

kplmverdict

"Everton Inviting Arsenal to get in The Game&039;

Permulaan.

Everton Press and Play

Hampir sepanjang separuh masa pertama Everton membuatkan penyokong Arsenal sesak nafas dengan fast and

Gol kedua memang jelas offside ,namun Arsenal pada first half menang

tidak menjadi dan sukar untuk get in the game.

Arsenal Starting XI

Namun world cup bukanlah benchmark terbaik . Sanchez ialah solid no.10 .

Jelas sekali Sanchez tidak mampu menepati kriteria no.9 Liga Inggeris.

Arsenal Di Second Half.

Menggantikan Sanchez seawal separuh masa kedua jelas sekali Arsene Wenger merasakan , dia perlukan another no.9. Cazorla sperti biasa sangat under-rated. Saya selalu meletakkan dia sebagai man to watch dan ternyata ia benar. Cazorla mengubah nasib Arsenal. Seorang box to box Mifielder terpaksa dikeluarkan dan kita tahu ,Ramsey bukan calon itu. Jadi Wilshere dikeluarkan.

Everton Inviting Arsenal To Steal A point ! Kemasukkan Cazorla...

Taktikal Arsenal di spearuh masa pertama ialah sat back , pass and counter attack tanpa ada penyudah , Terlalu banyak cut back bila berada di atas. Di separuh masa kedua , Arsene Wenger Menggunnakan All out Attack dalam doubele six. Everton berjaya mencuri berberapa peluang namun

First half mereka bermain cukup baik tetapi di second half terlalu direct football. Saya mungkin antara anti direct football.

Everton ada kualiti daripada memilih direct football. Arsenal meneyelamatkan 1 mata dalam 7 minit terakhir. Ramsey sekali lagi menjadi "gerrard"

untuk Arsenal.Kemasukkan Giroud menjadikan Arsenal lebih bahaya berbanding Sanchez. Ini membuktikan Pertahanan Everton tidaklah sekebal mana jika ada striker yg betul betul no.9. So nak tak nak , Arsene harus bersetuju membayar Cavani !. Ketiadaan Koscielny membuatkab Back Arsenal tak terurus. Saya rasakan Debuchy bukanlah pemain yg bagus utk pasukan Arsenal sebagai first choice. Stelah semua kembali saya yakin Chambers akan menjadi pilihan utama di Right Back.
