Adam Bogdan: Wants to be first choice at Liverpool

Adam Bogdan: Wants to be first choice at Liverpool

Adam Bogdan has set his sights on the No.1 jersey at Liverpool after officially completing his free-transfer move from Bolton.

Bogdan effectively replaces Brad Jones, who was released at the end of his contract, but unlike Jones, the Hungary international does not intend to spend his time at Anfield as back-up to Simon Mignolet.

"I think it's a massive challenge," Bogdan said of his battle with Mignolet to be first choice.

"I know him as a keeper, I've been watching him and we are a very similar age.

"I respect him as a keeper. I haven't had a chance to meet him yet, but I'm sure we're going to get along very well and we're going to have a good relationship.

"We're going to compete, of course, that's the nature of this position and the sport. It's going to be a big challenge but at the same time we are going to help each other as well.

"I want to play as many games as I possibly can and be a No 1 keeper for Liverpool. I have to prove myself and prove to the manager that I'm able to do that.

"I would like to win trophies. I'm really excited to join a club where I have a chance to do that. It's a massive step in my career and I'm looking to enjoy it."

Bogdan joins Liverpool after eight years at Bolton but admits it was an easy decision to make to move to Anfield.

"I couldn't sleep for two days. It still hasn't sunk in properly yet," he told Liverpool's official website.

"On one hand, it was an easy decision of course. I'm playing for one of the most famous, if not the most famous club in the world, playing in Europe and challenging for titles. But on the other hand, I played for Bolton for eight years. I loved the club and thank them a lot. So that was hard, but not in professional terms.

"Bolton was the club that made my dream come true - playing in the English Premier League. Ever since I was a boy that was the only thing I could think about, to play in the English Premier League. I did that with Bolton and I'll always keep them in my heart."

Liverpool completed the signing of England right-back Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton on Wednesday and will now focus their attention on Aston Villa Christian Benteke, although there have been no further progress in negotiations with the Midlanders, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Nathaniel Clyne: Joins Liverpool from Southampton

Liverpool have completed the signing of Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne in a £12million deal.

The 24-year-old full-back is believed to have agreed a five-year contract at Anfield, with the Reds paying £10million up front with a further £2million in add-ons.

Clyne is the Reds' sixth signing of the summer, following Manchester City midfielder James Milner, Burnley striker Danny Ings, Hoffenheim forward Roberto Firmino, Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan and Charlton defender Joe Gomez.

"I'm delighted and it's a dream move for me to come here and play for such a big club with all of its history. I can't wait to get started," Clyne told Liverpool's official website.

"As soon as Liverpool showed their interest in me, I was happy and just wanted the deal to go through.

"The gaffer has shown a lot of interest in me and this is a place where I can improve as a player, I think. It's definitely a good opportunity to come here and try to fulfil my potential.

"I've played at Anfield before and know what the atmosphere is all about. It's a great atmosphere and will make me rise to the challenge. I'm really looking forward to it and hopefully it can push me on to putting on good performances."

Nathaniel Clyne: Has completed his move from Southampton to Liverpool

Nathaniel Clyne: Has completed his move from Southampton to Liverpool

Liverpool have completed the signing of England defender Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.

The 24-year-old is understood to have penned a five-year contract at Anfield to become Brendan Rodgers' sixth new recruit this summer in a deal potentially worth £12.5million.

Sky sources understand the Reds have paid an up-front fee of £10m, which will rise to £12,5m based on incentives reached by the player.

Rodgers has already brought in James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino to Merseyside.

Clyne's arrival will see him reunited with three of his former Southampton team-mates who left the south coast for Liverpool last summer - Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren.

Rodgers has pinpointed five-cap England international Clyne as a replacement for Glen Johnson, who has left the club after his contract expired.

He had the first part of his medical on Monday and after that was concluded, he has now pledged his future to the team which finished sixth in the Premier League last season.

Clyne said: "I'm delighted and it's a dream move for me to come here and play for such a big club with all of its history. I can't wait to get started.

"As soon as Liverpool showed their interest in me, I was happy and just wanted the deal to go through.

Nathaniel Clyne is expected to sign for Liverpool

Nathaniel Clyne is expected to sign for Liverpool

Harry Redknapp believes Liverpool's move for Nathaniel Clyne will prove to be a great purchase for the club.

Clyne is expected to sign for Liverpool after having the first part of his medical on Monday.

Sky sources understand the transfer will be worth an initial £12.5m up-front with additional payments, based on certain conditions that would eventually be met by the player, to add up to a total of £15m.

Redknapp admits he monitored the progress of Clyne during his time at Tottenham, when the defender was playing for Crystal Palace.

He is confident Brendan Rodgers has now signed the finished article and has praised Clyne's development at Southampton.

The Reds signed three players from Southampton last summer; Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren and Clyne is set to continue the trend this summer.

Redknapp made a tongue-in-cheek comment about Liverpool's business with the Saints but gave his approval of the move.

"Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool is a great move, although it seems Liverpool only seem to buy Southampton players now! We could have had him at Spurs when he was at Palace," Redknapp told Kicca

"He took his game to another level at Southampton and I think that’s a great buy by Brendan."
