Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has been named Barclays Player of the Season and winner of the Golden Boot award.

The Uruguay international scored 31 goals and produced 12 assists as his team finished two points behind champions Manchester City in a thrilling title race in the top flight.

Suarez, 27, collected the Barclays Golden Boot award for finishing the campaign as the top goal scorer in the Premier League.

Chelsea's Petr Cech and Arsenal's Wojciech Szczesny could not be separated as they were joint winners of the Barclays Golden Glove award for 2013/14.

The two keepers kept 16 clean sheets each this season - Cech doing so in 34 league games and Szczesny in 37. This is the third time Cech has won the award, and the first time for Szczesny.

Tony Pulis stole the honours in the managerial stakes with the Crystal Palace boss scooping the Barclays Manager of the Season award.

The Welshman guided the Eagles to 11th place after joining the club in November when they had only four points and were bottom of the table. He was presented with his award at Monday night's LMA awards dinner.

Voting was made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans.

Kolo Toure insists Liverpool will learn from their title heartache and is confident they can mount another challenge for the trophy next season.

Liverpool seized command of the title race with three matches remaining after winning 11 games in a row, but the Reds dropped four points to hand the initiative to Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini's men secured the Premier League crown on the final day of the season with a 2-0 victory against West Ham, while Liverpool had to settle for second after a 2-1 win over Newcastle.

Toure insists the Merseysiders could not have given much more and believes the experience gained this season will help them to remain strong contenders.

"I think we did everything we could and at the end City won it," he said.

"The most important thing was that we have been fighting until the end.

"We will learn from the mistakes we made and next year we will be better.

"Nobody expected us to be where we are, but we lacked a little bit of experience and that is why I think we will gain experience.

"We will gain experience by making those mistakes and losing the title like we did.

"I am sure that will give us the strength to better next year."

Toure believes Liverpool showed they have a strong enough squad to compete with the big teams, but were let down by 'bad decisions' as they faltered in a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea and a 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace.

Asked for the difference between Liverpool and City, he said: "Experience. They had won the Premier League already and for us at the crucial time we made a few bad decisions which is part of the game.

"This is football. You need to have bad times to have good times after and you learn from the bad times and you can improve when you get to the situation where you need to make a better decision.

"What we showed to everyone is that we have the quality to fight for the league."

Toure slipped out of the side after a promising start to his Reds career and will hold talks with manager Brendan Rodgers about his future at Anfield.

"It is going to be tough for sure but this team have got experience now for what happened this season and I think that the manager knows what he needs to do," said the 33-year-old, who is hoping to go to this summer's World Cup with Ivory Coast.

"If I have the chance to stay, for sure. For me I just enjoy my time every time I play and I am a leader and I like to play a lot and I like to help the team when I am on the pitch.

"I will speak to the manager and we will see what will happen."

James Ayles predicts likely candidates to be heading for the exit door at Anfield this summer.

With this most entertaining, uplifting and enthralling of seasons now finally finished, eyes will now, predictably be drawn to the transfer dealings within Anfield.

Across the world, Liverpool fans wait with great expectation, hoping for Brendan Rodgers to entice more Philippe Coutinho’s and Daniel Sturridges’ instead of Oussama Aissaidi’s and Iago Aspas’.

Yet, amidst the likely onslaught of purchases to bolster the squad ahead of Champions League football, it is also unavoidable that several faces will also depart the club as Rodgers’ seeks to make his club both competitive but balanced across all four competitions.

Pepe Reina

Still a Liverpool favourite despite his Italian exile, it seems inevitable that the Spaniard will seek pastures anew this summer.

With £11 million Simon Mignolet having an impressive debut campaign as the Reds’ number one, Reina would be a very expensive back up to retain at the club.

It therefore appears that his successful, impressive eight years at the club are now over.

Jose Enrique

Initially impressive, but consistently inconsistent under Rodgers, Enrique could be a departure should a higher quality replacement be found. Whilst Liverpool seem to be the only club not currently linked with Luke Shaw, there are numerous targets, both at home and abroad, that could tempt Rodgers’ into selling Enrique, with Jon Flanagan likely to be at the very least a very able deputy for both full back positions over the next few seasons.

Sebastian Coates

Many fans may be surprised to find that Coates’ name still lingers on Liverpool’s books. Serious injury a year ago has curtailed any small hope he had of ever forcing his way into Rodgers plans, despite being the sort of imposing, ball playing centre half that many teams dream of owning. The purchase of Tiao Ilori and a loan spell at former club Nacional in his native Uruguay appears to be the precursor to a permanent move this summer.

Martin Kelly

A difficult one, in that it means finally giving up on a home-grown lad who has contributed greatly to the club for many years, but at 24 years of age, it now appears that Kelly must move on to fulfil his undoubted potential. With the likes of Flanagan, Jack Robinson and Tiago Ilori now occupying the tag of “promising youngsters,” Kelly is unlikely to secure either the right-back or centre-back berth he desires, and still has many years left to secure first-team football, and perhaps even further international recognition, at a club with more modest ambitions.

Lucas Leiva

With Champions League football on the horizon, it is perhaps debatable as to whether jettisoning a solid and proven midfielder of Lucas’ ability would be the right move.

With the midfield in need of bolstering rather than trimming, many would consider the Brazilian an important squad player for next season.

Yet, alongside his various injury struggles over the past few seasons, it has also become abundantly clear that Lucas does not feature in Brendan Rodgers’ ideal Liverpool XI.

Having started the season as part of a midfield two with Gerrard, team performances have improved markedly since Gerrard was deployed as the sole holding midfielder.

Lucas does not possess the passing ability or composure to operate in Gerrard’s “quarterback” role, and his performances against Crystal Palace, Norwich and Chelsea also indicate that he does not have the dynamism or inclination to play in a more advanced midfield position.

It would perhaps, therefore, be more progressive to replace the 27-year-old with a player more suitable to Gerrard. Feyenoord’s Jordy Clasie, a player of great tenacity and vision, or perhaps even Lars Bender, would be a more suitable fit for Liverpool’s style than their current number 21, whilst Luis Alberto and Joao Teixeira could also be granted greater first team exposure.

Iago Aspas

A player who was almost too obvious to be included on this list, Aspas appears to have little ahead of him than the Anfield exit door.

Admittedly, similar was said of Fabio Borini last season, and he may have just salvaged a Liverpool career with his performances at Sunderland.

But the sheer ineffectiveness of Aspas transcends words, statistics and belief. He has yet to score in 14 Premier League matches, none of which have seen him complete the full 90 minutes.

More damningly, in a side so praised for its attacking verve, he has mustered just two shots in that time, one of which was on target.

By contrast, Borini managed 17 shots in 13 appearances.

These are the current players whose departures would benefit not only the club, but also their own careers.

In order for Liverpool to progress, they must ensure that the all-round quality of the club rises progressively each year.

There are certainly more players whose futures will come into question over time; Glen Johnson is both ageing and declining as a force, and will not be a long term fixture at right back, especially with Jon Flanagan’s continued excellence.

Regardless, this summer proves to be an exciting one for all concerned at Anfield.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has been named the League Managers Association manager of the year 2014.

The award was voted for by his fellow professionals at all 92 Premier League and Football League clubs.

Rodgers lead the Reds to second place in the Premier League, narrowly finishing behind Champions Manchester City on the final day of the season.

An 11-match winning run to enter the title race was the club’s best run of league form in 24 years as they accumulated 84 points.

Rodgers is the first ever Liverpool boss to win the award, which started in 1994.

LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson paid tribute to the Liverpool boss for his achievements this seasons.

“There can be no greater tribute to a manager and his work than a tribute awarded by his match-day foes and peers,” he was quoted in The Guardian as saying. “This evening we applaud Brendan Rodgers as he receives that most valuable award.

“Liverpool Football Club’s performances and results this season have provoked memories of some of those momentous years in the past when they had to contend with those two United’s, the first from Leeds, the second from Manchester.

“For Liverpool and Brendan, I’m sure we all hope this season marks the beginning of a new voyage and a new era.”

Crytal Palace boss Tony Pulis was voted the Premier League manager of the year for his remarkable turnaround of the club following Ian Holloway’s departure early in the season.

Leicester City’s Nigel Pearson won the Championship manager of the year award, Wolves’ Kenny Jackett and Leyton Orient’s Russell Slade jointly the gong for League One, while Scunthorpe’s Russ Wilcox was the League Two manager of the year.

Kolo Toure believes Liverpool's title pain will make them stronger

Gary Neville says Liverpool star Luis Suarez or Brendan Rodgers must quickly end speculation over a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

The Liverpool striker, who was voted both the PFA and FWA Player of the Season, has been linked with a switch to one of the top clubs in Spain when the transfer window opens next month.

Suarez signed an improved deal with the Merseyside club in January after being the subject of a bid from Arsenal last summer - and after helping to guide Liverpool to second in the Premier League, Neville says he should publicly confirm that he wants to stay at Anfield.

"I think he's got a huge role to play in the next couple of months," he said on the Sky Sports End of Season Special.

"He's been the best player in the league this season, an incredible performer and he shows he cares because of the way in which he reacted in the last couple of weeks.

"I think he's got to come out and make a big statement. The rumours started the other day about Real Madrid and Barcelona and he's got to squash those straight away and that will give Brendan Rodgers the foundations to be able to mount a recruitment plan this summer.

"If there's nonsense hanging over him all summer it won't do Liverpool any favours. He's got to come out pretty quickly and put that to bed."

Newspaper reports have suggested that both Real Madrid and Barcelona are monitoring a potential €100m buy-out clause that may have been included in Suarez's latest contract.

And Neville says it may be time for Liverpool boss Rodgers to take a firm stand and insist his star player isn't for sale.

"Brendan Rodgers has to box him off now," he added.

"He can't allow him to go into a World Cup with uncertainty dragging on and uncertainty up in the air.

"I don't know what the clause relates to that we've seen in the last couple of days. I thought in January when he signed his contract that the clause related to not getting into the Champions League.

"If he hasn't got a clause that allows him to leave, I would just say 'you're not going' because at the end of the day Liverpool Football Club can't afford to lose him this summer or else they will struggle badly to replace him.

"I know Liverpool will survive and go on, but in terms of building on what they've achieved this year, Brendan Rodgers needs to get that dealt with quickly."

And Neville also paid tribute to the improvement he has seen from the player, both in terms of talent and attitude.

"He got to a level that I didn't think he was capable of when I first saw him two years ago," he added.

"I thought at that time his game lacked maturity and decision-making, but this year everything has come together at once. His appreciation of his team-mates is so much better, his finishing is absolutely fantastic and what impresses me most is his attitude towards the game. It's impeccable.

"Modern-day footballers get a lot of criticism because they don't fight, but every time you see him on a football pitch it looks as though his life depends on it.

"I have to say if you match that with the talent he has then you've got an incredible player."

Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom has been a key figure while on loan for Derby County as the Midlands side qualified for the Championship play-off final on Sunday. We get the opinions of Ollie Wright from derbycountyblog.com.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Tuesday, August 27, 2013: Liverpool's Andre Wisdom in action against Notts County during the Football League Cup 2nd Round match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Nigel Clough’s sacking early this season was a shock to many, but came after a disappointing start to the season at home, in which Derby suffered consecutive defeats to Leicester, Burnley and Reading. The final straw for the board came when Jack Hobbs lost his marker at a corner to head past Lee Grant, giving our bitterest rivals Nottingham Forest a 1-0 victory at the City Ground.

Defending had been a real issue for some time with Derby and an inability to cope with set pieces and crosses was a particular bone of contention among fans. I remember for a while, it seemed that whereas we had to work hard to create our goals, all the oppos needed to do was sling the ball into the box. In the first post-Clough game, newly appointed head coach Steve McClaren watched in horror from the stands as Derby weakly slumped to 1-4 at half-time against Ipswich. Three of the Tractor Boys’ goals came from set pieces.

McClaren’s response was to sign Andre Wisdom on loan and ever since, the defence has essentially been sorted. Playing at right back, he has been as good as a third centre back in providing extra height and power in our side. The manner in which he dealt with Brighton winger Kazenga LuaLua during the first leg of the play-off semi-final summed his season up – utterly assured, unfazed by pace or trickery, an all-round ‘rock at the back’, adding immensely to the solidity of our side.

Offensively as well, he has shown real aptitude. My favourite memories from his season involve him skinning two or three players on a mazy, cheeky dribble at Wigan and a storming run down the wing at Barnsley, before his cross picked out Chris Martin at the back stick for a picturebook goal in front of the delirious Rams fans. However, in recent weeks, Wisdom has been instructed by the coaching staff to hold his position more and allow left back Craig Forsyth to do more of the attacking.

My only criticism of Wisdom is that he is apparently entirely one-footed and will do almost anything to avoid using his left foot. This is a deficiency that may put a ceiling on how far he can ultimately go and something he should certainly work on, if it’s not already too late.

I was very surprised that we were able to get Wisdom on loan and thought at the time that he would be a fantastic signing – so it has proved. His strength, technique and pace make him a totally assured presence at Championship level and I hope he is eventually able to make the step up into the Premier League.

Perhaps ultimately, his best position will be centre back, but he has done a phenomenal job for us at right back. There’s a debate to be had as to whether Wisdom or Everton’s Leon Osman now ranks as the best loan signing in Derby County’s history.

Andre Wisdom’s Derby County loan spell has been a huge success
