FSG have reduced LFC debts by £200m

Liverpool’s debt has been reduced by £200m since Fenway Sports Group purchased the club less than four years, according to The Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool FC’s financial report for 2012/13 also reveals that the annual turnover increased by 9&%, up to £206.1m – despite the lack of Champions League football.

There is also a huge £36m commercial revenue increase and a slight increase in matchday revenue.

Net debt is now down to £45.1m – from £65.4m two years ago.

At one time, that figure – when adding in the holding company of previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett – was almost £400m, as explained by Swiss Ramble.

Managing director Ian Ayre told the official Liverpool website:

“These results demonstrate that the financial health of the club continues to make good progress as we continue our journey to transform the club on and off the pitch.

“Over the past four or five years, revenue has been consistently increasing from around £170 million in 2009 to over £200 million today – and external debt has decreased significantly to less than £50 million.

As reported in January, Liverpool are financially the highest placed side without Champions League football.

Liverpool FC accounts submitted to Companies House revealed

Liverpool Football Club’s 2013 accounts make for interesting reading, as debts were reduced by 29 percent, and turnover up by 9 percent.

The Liverpool Echo report that “FSG [Fenway Sports Group] have now reduced Anfield’s debts by £200m since taking over in October 2010.”

The reduction in debts this year is due to an interest free, inter company loan from FSG of £46.8million to repay a historic stadium loan facility.

The accounts published this week show good growth for the club, with commercial revenues up to £97.7m from £63.9m the previous year, media revenues up £63.8m from £62.8m, and overall turnover up to £206.1m from £169m.

The club’s annual loss also increased though, now £49.8m.

Twitter account @LFCZA claims that match day revenue has increased again to £44.6m from £42.3m, and still accounts for a large proportion of the club’s income, though media and commercial revenues are higher.

Managing director Ian Ayre said the accounts showed good progress Liverpool FC, who are the financially strongest non-Champions League club.

He told the club’s official website, “Over the past four or five years, revenue has been consistently increasing from around £170million in 2009 to over £200million today, and external debt has decreased significantly to less than £50million.

“With a hugely supportive ownership group, we have taken a measured approach to bring back financial stability to this great club by ensuring it is properly structured on and off the pitch.

“During the period, we signed six new players including Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho and Joe Allen, and we extended seven players’ contracts which included Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Martin Kelly, Lucas Leiva and Raheem Sterling – adding depth and strength to the squad while continuing to develop young talent. In addition, nine players were transferred out and eight players were loaned out.”

Raheem Sterling’s England role talked up

Raheem Sterling has received the backing of both Brendan Rodgers and Daniel Agger to make the step up and become a key part of the England national side’s first team.

Sterling’s sensational form for Liverpool this season has not only begun calls for Roy Hodgson to take him to this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, but for him to be in the starting XI too.

The 19-year-old currently only has one England cap, won in a friendly against Sweden in 2012.

However, after another goal for the Reds against Southampton on Saturday, Rodgers feels Sterling is ready for the world’s stage.

The Liverpool boss is quoted in the Mirror as saying, “I just think that a year or so down the line from his first cap, England will be seeing a player with much greater maturity and a young player who has produced in big games,” said Rodgers.

“He’s a kid who’s just turned 19 but he’s a father now, that brings maturity into your life and he’s coping with that remarkably well.

“You see a young player who’s getting stronger and stronger every day; a young player who, tactically, has improved his level impressively.”

Should Sterling be selected to play in this Wednesday’s international friendly between England and Denmark at Wembley, he will come face to face with Anfield teammate Daniel Agger.

The Danish captain also believes Sterling has shown the maturity to succeed at international level.

“He can handle the pressure, or else he would not play for us, for Liverpool. It’s a great opportunity for him,” said Agger to Sky Sports News.

“If he continues what he is doing right now I cannot see why not (for the World Cup squad).

“He is a great, great talent and has some qualities England can use.”

England v Denmark gets underway at 8pm on Wednesday, 5th March 2014. Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge are also included in Hodgson’s squad.

Liverpool report increase in revenue to £206m in latest financial results

Liverpool have reported a nine per cent increase in revenue to £206.1m for the year ending May 31, 2013.

The club, currently just four points off top spot in the Barclays Premier League, also revealed external debt decreased by 29 per cent to £45.1m.

The increase in revenue continues a steady upward trend since Fenway Sports Group took over the club in October 2010 while, during the same period, external debt has fallen by almost £200m.

In a statement on the club's official website, managing director Ian Ayre said: "These results demonstrate the financial health of the club continues to make good progress as we continue our journey to transform the club on and off the pitch.

"Over the past four or five years, revenue has been consistently increasing from around £170million in 2009 to over £200m today, and external debt has decreased significantly to less than £50m.

"We have also seen good progress being made regarding a proposed stadium expansion at Anfield. Any final decision continues to be based on certainty; however, since the partnership was established between Liverpool City Council, Your Housing Group and LFC only 16 months ago, we regard the progress as extremely positive.

"Given where Liverpool Football Club was only a few years ago, the progress that has been made since FSG acquired the club has brought back much-needed stability with an ambitious vision which everyone is focused on.

"I'd like to thank everyone involved in running the club - our owners, fans, partners, players and staff - for all the hard work and dedication."
