Abou Diaby: On the release list for Arsenal

Abou Diaby: On the release list for Arsenal

Which players have been put on the released list by their Premier League clubs?

Premier League clubs have submitted the list of players that they will be keeping in their squads, and the ones they will be releasing this summer.

It is important to note that although these players are on the released list, it does not neccessarily mean they are heading for the exit door. It may just mean their contract expires on June 30 and has still to be extended.

Abou Diaby, as expected, is on the Arsenal list and it appears his nine-year injury-hit career at the Emirates is over. Ron Vlaar is among those named released by Aston Villa - but the club has offered him a new contract.

Hull have released the most players - 13 - whilst champions Chelsea have just one, Didier Drogba.

Liverpool confirmed the departures of captain Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson and goalkeeper Brad Jones.

Gerrard is joining Los Angeles Galaxy next month while the latest club to be linked with Johnson are Besiktas, the side which knocked the Reds out of the Europa League last season.

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool future still uncertain

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool future still uncertain

Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling has more than likely already been offered a lucrative contract elsewhere, according to Harry Redknapp.

Sterling is reported to be wanted by Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich among others after his agent, Aidy Ward, said he would "definitely not" sign a new contract at Liverpool.

The Reds are determined to keep hold of Sterling but, should they eventually relent, Redknapp believes the 20-year-old will already have a deal lined up.

"What are you going to get out of Raheem Sterling if you force him to stay against his wishes?" Redknapp said on Kicca.com.

"There's somebody whose spoken to his agent, there's no danger, there's a deal lined up somewhere, we mustn't kid ourselves.

"There isn't a transfer that gets done where someone hasn't spoken to somebody, it's all done that way.

"So whatever club it is in this country, they'd have made an offer, they'd have had a meeting with the agent and someone and there'll be a deal on the table, 'This is what we'll give him, this is the deal, 150 grand a week.'

"He wants it, suddenly you say 'No you're not going,' how's he going to play? I know he's not going to not try, he wouldn't do that, he's got to go out and try, but if his head's not right you've got a problem.

"So you've got to try and get him in on his own, talk to him and say 'Look, we want you to stay' and if he says 'Well, I don't want to stay' then I think you've got to sell him."

Christian Benteke: Has been linked with a move to Liverpool

Christian Benteke: Has been linked with a move to Liverpool

Aston Villa chief executive Tom Fox is confident Christian Benteke will remain at Villa Park and has revealed the club are set to offer him a new contract.

Benteke has been linked with a string of clubs this summer, most recently Liverpool, after ending the season in spectacular fashion to help Villa avoid relegation, and with a £32.5m release clause in his current deal Villa could be powerless to prevent him leaving.

However Fox insists Benteke has a great working relationship with Tim Sherwood and says the club are under no pressure to sell the player.

Fox admits they are yet to speak to the Belgian regarding his future but hopes Villa will be able to keep the striker who scored 15 goals in all competitions last season, 12 coming in his last 13 appearances.

Benteke has two years left on his deal at Villa and is currently on international duty with Belgium as they prepare to face Wales in a crucial European Qualifier on Friday.

"We are obviously going to offer him a new contract in the summer. He's a fantastic player and one of the top strikers in the Premier League and I think he is someone who is recognised around the world as one of the top strikers.

"He was critically important as you saw this year for us. His goals in the second half of the season were fundamental to us staying up. He's settled in England.

"He has got a good relationship with everyone at the club. I know him and Tim have a great working relationship, so our hope is we can keep him. I haven't had any conversations with him, I know he's got two years left on his deal as a starting point, so I am fairly certain we can have him back next year if we want."

Martin Skrtel: Liverpool defender rules out Manchester United move

Martin Skrtel: Liverpool defender rules out Manchester United move

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has said he could envisage joining any club this summer - apart from Manchester United.

Skrtel revealed last week that he had turned down the offer of a new contract at Anfield, describing it as "unacceptable".

"I think that contracts like this are offered to players who are much older than me or the player who had some health problems," the Slovakian defender said.

"The contract which has been offered to me is unacceptable, so I did not sign it. I have one year left and there has been some speculation about the interest from other clubs. We will see what happens."

While Skrtel is made it clear he is open to the idea of a transfer this summer, he has ruled out ever joining Liverpool's rivals Manchester United.

"I can imagine a transfer to anywhere but to United, never," he said in the Daily Express.

Ibrahimovic celebrated another French title last month

AC Milan have held talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic's representative Mino Raiola over bringing the Sweden star back to the San Siro, according to Sky sources.

Ibrahimovic is believed to be keen on a move away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer and Raiola met with Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old, who has one year left on his current deal, is the subject of interest from a number of European clubs, with Premier League sides Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly among them.

Former club Milan, where he spent two years until 2012 and scored 28 Serie A goals in 32 appearances, are believed to be willing to offer him a three-year contract.

Ibrahimovic, a national hero in Sweden with over 100 caps and 54 goals, has accumulated some of the biggest transfer fees in the history of the game, with moves between Malmo FF, Ajax, Juventus, Internazionale, Barcelona, Milan and PSG fetching a total of £133.2m.

Ibrahimovic moved to PSG in 2012 for £15.7m and has scored 75 goals in Ligue 1 in 88 starts and 15 goals in 22 appearances in the Champions League.

Danny Ings: Talks ongoing over compensation fee

Danny Ings: Talks ongoing over compensation fee

Liverpool remain locked in talks over compensation for Danny Ings but claims Burnley could be entitled to a record fee at a tribunal appear unlikely.

The Reds announced the capture of the England Under-21 international, whose contract expires at Turf Moor on June 30, on Monday.

However, because of his age (22) the Clarets are entitled to financial recompense and have already rejected an opening offer of £4million.

It is understood the two clubs are miles apart on their valuations as Burnley, influenced by a £12million bid lodged by Tottenham earlier this month despite being told by Ings' agent weeks ago he was not interested in moving to White Hart Lane, are believed to want around £10million.

Reports have suggested if the Professional Football Compensation Committee are asked to rule they could break their own record valuation which required Chelsea to pay £6.5million (£3.5million up front with add-ons based on appearances up to 40 and senior England recognition) when the then 20-year-old Daniel Sturridge, coincidentally now at Anfield, quit Manchester City after his contract expired in 2009.

However, each case is judged on its own merits and the fact that deal was between two top Premier League clubs, Sturridge was being offered substantial wages - an indicator of how highly the buying club valued him - and he had been with City since the age of eight were all factored into the fee.

Ings' circumstances are different in that he is not a product of Burnley's academy having joined from Bournemouth for £1million four years ago.

Tottenham's reported bid for Ings has been viewed with some scepticism and previous history suggests it is unlikely to push up the transfer fee as, for example, Tom Ince's move from Blackpool to Hull saw the Seasiders reportedly reject an £8million bid in January for the 22-year-old and then be awarded £2million plus add-ons by a tribunal.

If the timescale of that case, which was finally settled in the January after the summer transfer window, was followed in the Ings example Burnley would have to wait until 2016 for any money - although they will already have benefited from a Premier League parachute payment of £24million with a further £40million to follow in the three subsequent years.

Talks are continuing between the two clubs and it seems a fee in the region of between £5million and £6million is the most likely outcome at this stage.

Raheem Sterling's desire to leave is not all about money, says Roy Evans

Raheem Sterling's desire to leave is not all about money, says Roy Evans

Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans believes Raheem Sterling's desire to leave Anfield is not financially motivated.

Sterling and his agent have been roundly criticised after rejecting the Reds' offer of an extension to his current contract, which expires next summer, and would see the player earn £100,000-a-week.

The 20-year-old was booed during England's 0-0 friendly draw with Ireland in Dublin on Sunday afternoon and it seems likely that Sterling will leave Liverpool in the current transfer window.

Manchester City have been linked with the player, and although their vast financial power would come into play for any potential deal, Evans has doubts that money is the cause of Sterling’s discontent.

"That's been a worry for a while," Evans told Sky Sports News HQ. "Obviously I'm not privy to what happens in dressing rooms nowadays.

"Raheem is not quite the finished article yet and it's disappointing that he wants to move somewhere else. I don't think it's all about money.

"At the end of the day, £100,000 or £200,000 doesn't really make an awful lot of difference. I would just like to know the real reason why he wants to leave."

Evans has also added his voice to those who feel Sterling would be best served by staying at Liverpool and developing his game before seeking a move away.

He also felt England manager Roy Hodgson was wrong for suggesting Sterling needs ‘a thicker skin’ to deal with the vocal criticism he received in Dublin.

"I think the best thing for him to do is to stay, learn a bit more from Liverpool and then if further down the line you want to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona, then you can," added Evans, who managed Liverpool from 1994-1998 after 28 years on the club’s coaching staff.

"I think Roy was a bit unkind when he said he has to get a thick skin. When you're a young kid and you're getting a lot stick from the Liverpool fans, you have to take it on the chin.

"At his age, it’s difficult and it can knock your confidence. It will be a loss for Liverpool as I think he is a great talent and with his potential. he could go far but if he doesn't want to stay, there then there's no point trying to keep him."

Steven Gerrard: Ended long association with Liverpool this summer

Steven Gerrard: Ended long association with Liverpool this summer

Former Liverpool boss Roy Evans believes his old club should have done more to retain the services of Steven Gerrard.

The former England captain left Anfield for LA Galaxy at the end of last season after scoring 186 goals in 710 appearances for the club.

Despite celebrating his 35th birthday at the end of May, Evans, who was in charge of Liverpool between 1994-1998, is convinced the midfielder 'still has a lot to offer'.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ he said: "I’m talking as a supporter now and I think they should have tried hard to keep Steven.

"People say they offered him half the contract he had. He gave up England to play for Liverpool but Brendan Rodgers didn’t play him in the Real Madrid game, Man U game, all the big games, he sort of left him out.

"People say he is getting older but for me he still has a lot to offer. I think Liverpool has to forget about the potential in many ways and they have to get players who know they are going to do the job.

"We have a great academy with a lot of lads with good potential coming through the academy and we have to look at them sometimes.

"Jordon Ibe and people like that have signed a contract so hopefully with a mixture of some experience and some younger kids we’ll have a better squad and at least a better attacking option.

"Throughout the season Daniel Sturridge has been injured for most of the time... and sometimes Brendan has played without a striker which has been very difficult for the fans to take."

Danny Ings has revealed his happiness at his move to Liverpool after the Anfield club agreed to sign him on July 1.

It was announced on Monday that the England U21 international would be heading to Merseyside once his contract with Burnley expired at the end of the month.

Ings scored 11 goals in 35 appearances in his maiden season in the Premier League and following Burnley’s relegation, his departure was inevitable.

The 22-year-old used social media to thank the Turf Moor club on Tuesday night before outlining his excitement in moving to the Reds.

He tweeted: "Thanks to Burnley for four brilliant years. The fans backed me every step of the way, I will never forget that. Good luck always".

"Thanks for your messages. Delighted to be joining Liverpool FC - a special club with great players. I will give everything to be successful."

Ings became Liverpool's second summer signing after James Milner joined from Manchester City.

With Liverpool stuttering to sixth place in the Premier League last season, manager Brendan Rodgers will be hoping Ings can help add firepower upfront with Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Daniel Sturridge only scoring eight league goals between them.

Ings joined Burnley from Bournemouth four years ago for £1m after and scored 43 goals in 130 games for the club.
