Brendan Rodgers was understandably disappointed with the way his side went down 3-1 at Hull City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Liverpool boss blamed a lack of creativity on the attack as the downfall to his side’s defeat to the KC Stadium.

The result means Liverpool have now lost three times this season and will feel it is certainly three points dropped with tricky away games at Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea on the horizon.

Rodgers was quoted by the BBC after the game as saying, “I thought we had plenty of effort and commitment but there were too many mistakes and with the ball we didn’t create enough.

“It was a disappointing result all round. Our confidence was high, but we did not pass the ball well, we got back into it with Stevie’s free-kick, but we had plenty of possession with no real penetration.

“There is no doubt that we miss a player of Daniel Sturridge’s quality and we do not have a squad that is big enough to cope with his absence.”

Sturridge has been ruled out of action for between 6-8 weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage in training this week.

Liverpool now have two must-win back-to-back home games, against Norwich City on Wednesday night, followed by West Ham next Saturday, 7th December.

Rodgers added, “We cannot dwell on it too much but we now have two games at home and need to kick on but we have to be better than we were today and we will look to do that on Wednesday.”

Match Summary

Hull City inflicted a third defeat of the season on Brendan Rodgers‘ Liverpool on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 victory at the KC Stadium.

With Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho injured, Victor Moses and Raheem Sterling came in to support Luis Suarez in attack.

Kolo Toure replaced Daniel Agger at the back, partnering Martin Skrtel, whilst Jon Flanagan kept his place at left-back.

Jake Livermore gave the home side the lead on 20 minutes. After Hull had dispossessed Moses deep in the Liverpool half, Livermore’s shot took a wicked deflection off Skrtel to give Simon Mignolet no chance of saving.

Steven Gerrard equalised just seven minutes later, delivering an expertly taken free-kick low and past Allan McGregor in the Hull goal.

Second half substitutions of Luis Alberto and Coutinho on for the very poor Moses and Raheem Sterling did little to turn the game Liverpool’s way.

Hull, buoyed by a loud atmosphere from their fans, later took the lead with just under 20 minutes to go.

Minutes after Moses could have put Liverpool 2-1 up, David Meyler took advantage of sloppy Reds defending with a good finish past Mignolet’s outstretched left hand.

Luis Suarez went close from a free-kick late on, whipping the ball slightly left of the Hull goal.

But in the 86th minute, Hull put the game beyond Liverpool. Tom Huddlestone’s shot after good hold up play by Yannick Sagnbo was put into his own net by Skrtel.

The result means Liverpool drop to third in the Premier League, now level on points with Everton and Chelsea – who play Southampton at home later today.

Next up for the Reds is two home games in a row – against Norwich on Wednesday night, followed by West Ham on Saturday, 7th December.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Toure, Flanagan, Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Moses (Alberto 74), Suarez, Sterling (Coutinho 66).

Subs: Jones, Agger, Sakho, Allen, Alberto, Aspas, Coutinho.

Hull City: McGregor; Elmohamady, Davies, Bruce, Figueroa; Meyler, Huddlestone, Livermore, Brady (Boyd 92), Koren (Rosenior 66); Sagbo (Graham 90).

Subs: Harper, Rosenior, Faye, Chester, Graham, Boyd, Gedo.
