Steven Gerrard says Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has to take criticism on the chin when "people are trying to kill you".

The Reds captain gave a frank interview in the aftermath of Wednesday night's Capital One Cup victory over Bournemouth when he admitted that his own form had been poor.

Liverpool are currently in 11th place in the Premier League and out of the Champions League after failing to win a must-win clash with Basel at Anfield.

They face Arsenal on Sunday with Gerrard urging his teammates to "roll up your sleeves and fight for the club".

"It’s been tough of late, I can’t deny that," he said. "It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster so to get a good win at Bournemouth is a big lift and a lift that is very welcome.

“We have a tough game at the weekend against Arsenal and then we have a run of fixtures which are a bit more kind to us. If we can get a big result against Arsenal and build on this, we can turn it around.

"It’s been very hard. I’ve experienced it a few times during my career at Liverpool when it gets tough under certain managers and, from the outside, people are trying to kill you. It’s normal. We’re at a big club, we’ve got to take that responsibility.

"We can’t have players hiding and feeling sorry for ourselves. Everyone knows if we perform back to how we have done of late against Arsenal we’ll get beat. We need men out there and, on Wednesday, I thought we all turned up. That’s why the result came."

Gerrard was part of a Liverpool side that was leading 4-0 inside 20 minutes against Arsenal at Anfield in February but does not expect a repeat performance.

"We won that game in the first 20 minutes but when you have a strike force of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suárez, they are capable of killing teams in 20 minutes," said Gerrard.

"It’s different this year and everyone knows that. I think they provided 60-70% of our goals, those two. You take them out of any team in the world and it’s going to be tough, and it has been.

"But I think this is where you find out what kind of players you’ve got in the dressing room. It’s time to roll your sleeves up and fight for the club and try to put it right as soon as possible and that’s what we’re trying to do.

"Criticism comes with the territory. There was a stage where a couple of my performances were under par and I got a bit of stick. It’s normal. I’ve got to accept it being captain of the club, and he’s got to accept it being the manager of Liverpool.

"If results don’t go well, questions are going to be asked, criticism is going to fly, you take it on the chin and try to improve things. That’s the only way.

"I know when I don’t play well. Every individual does here. But I think, collectively, it has been tough. It’s been tough to perform because we haven’t played well as a team and so there have been tough days of late.

"But if we keep fighting, keep performing, roll our sleeves up, keep giving everything we’ve got, I’m sure the good days are not too far away."

Mereka berjaya menjadi pasukan cemerlang sejak dikendalikan Klopp. Antara CV tertinggi Klopp ialah Juara Bundesliga dan juga Naib Juara UCL.

Ini adalah highlight ringkas dan Santai saya

Playmaker.

Isu kehilangan playmaker sebelum ini tidak dirasai kerana mereka berjaya cover up dengan the new playmaker. Kehilangan Nuri Sahin digantikan dengan Shinji Kagawa . Kehilangan Kagawa digantikan dengan Mario Gotze. Namun selepas pemergian Gotze mereka kucar kacir , kenapa??

Jelas ia tak mampu mengembalikan apa yg pernah mereka miliki.

kenapa?

Gen Dominan dalam DNA kian Hilang

Bila kehilangan DNA anda akan kehilangan style of football dan juga fluidity of football. Reason kenapa Valencia dan Young tetap dipakai SAF kerana dia tak mahu mengubah prinsip bolasepak terlalu drastik dalam sistem Wingplay di Man. Utd.

BvB terlalu mudah melepaskan key player setiap tahun. Terbaru Robert Lewandowski.

Mereka build the team utk sistem baru bukan dalam kerangka second striker + classic no.9 yg membawa kejayaan kepada mereka sekian lama.

sifat formasi yg baru

From possession football kepada fast / counter attack football. Mereka pernah digelar Barcelona of German Football.

Aspek Pertahanan.

Faktor semakin berusia dan kecederaan menjadi punca. Klopp terlepas pandang isu mendapatkan marquee signing di bahagian DMF mahupun back 4.

Hummel mungkin good player tapi dalam suasana yg meletakkan shape pasukan yg terlalu jauh gap. back 4 tetap koyak. Form as I yg ada tak sesuai tanpa solid DMF. Kehl dah berusia.Weidenfeller dah diluar zaman prime.

Leader and organizer

Mereka jelas tak ada leader dan general. Kehl bukan pilihan utama dalam padang. Sahin pula bukan dia yg dulu. Kehilangan pemain sperti Lewandowski , Gotze ditambah kecederaan kapten Blazcyzkowski . Mereka terpaksa menelan ketiadaan leader seperti Dede di dlam padang. Hummel kapten yg bagus namun dia bukan organizer yg baik.

Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard: Set to face Arsenal on Super Sunday

Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard: Set to face Arsenal on Super Sunday

Raheem Sterling should commit his long-term future to Liverpool and become an Anfield great, according to Steven Gerrard.

The 20-year-old is in talks over an extension to his current deal, which still has more than two years to run, but so far there has been no agreement.

Some of Europe's richest clubs have been linked with the England forward, whose performance as a central striker against Bournemouth in the the Capital One Cup reminded Gerrard of Liverpool's most prolific goalscorers of recent years.

And ahead of the Super Sunday game against Arsenal Anfield's one-club captain said: "I think this club is perfect for him, certainly for the next few years. He's going to play most weeks and the fans love him here.

"He can progress here and become a top, top player so I hope the people around him give him the right advice - he should stay.

"He's great to watch and great to play with. When you look up he's always giving you an option, and that's what I've thrived on throughout my career at Liverpool with the likes of Fernando Torres and Michael Owen.

"Raheem's got the potential to be top drawer, for sure."

Brendan Rogers insists he is relaxed over Sterling's contract situation, and the manager said this week: "I don’t think there’s any way there’s anything affecting him.

"He’s the type of boy who leaves his representatives to work with the club in order to hopefully organise the deal. He has no real influence in that.

"The club I’m sure will work very hard. Raheem’s happy here and loves being a Liverpool player. I’m sure between them and the representatives that we can get a deal done that sees him go on and continue to develop what is an exciting career."

Watch Liverpool v Arsenal live on Super Sunday this weekend. Kick-off at Anfield is at 4pm.
