Jose Enrique: Left-back frozen out at Liverpool

Jose Enrique says he has been "alienated" by Liverpool but is confident he will play games if he stays at Anfield beyond the end of the month.

Enrique, along with Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini, has been training away from the first-team squad over the summer after falling out of favour under Brendan Rodgers.

However, with only three weeks of the transfer window remaining, Enrique could yet remain at the club - and believes he can regain the trust of Rodgers if given the opportunity.

"I am in a difficult position," he told Spanish newspaper Marca.

"[Liverpool] have alienated Balotelli, Borini and me.

"I have a year [left on my] contract and I imagine that the club will want to [sell], but I still have the idea to stay and fight as I always have.

"If a good opportunity came with more years of contract and more options to play, I would [look into it]."

"I will not give up. Football changes from day to night - I know from experience.

"I [feel] perfect after two years with knee discomfort and Liverpool is obliged to [keep] me.

"In addition, there is only one pure left-back [at the club] and I know that if I stay I'll play.

"I want to prove [people] wrong."

Enrique is behind Alberto Moreno in the left-back pecking order at Anfield, while centre-back Joe Gomez started there at Stoke on Sunday, but the 29-year-old claims he has already rejected the chance of a move to La Liga this summer.

"I had a very good option to return to Spain," he said.

"But [it] is complicated because the economy is very different from what exists here.

"The only teams that can deal with what is paid in England are [Real Madrid and Barcelona], so I would love to stay here until my legs stop me."

Kaka tells Liverpool to build team around Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho: Backed by Kaka to be key player for Liverpool

Liverpool should build their team around Philippe Coutinho, according to Kaka, who has warned it may take Roberto Firmino time to settle at Anfield.

Coutinho has become an increasingly influential figure at Anfield in the last 12 months, and scored a superb winner in Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Stoke in their Premier League opener.

Former Ballon d'Or winner Kaka, his compatriot, says Coutinho can be the fulcrum of both Liverpool and Brazil's teams.

"I have been a big admirer of Coutinho and he can be a very important player for Liverpool and Brazil," Kaka told the Daily Mirror.

"There will be a lot of expectation on him with Liverpool fighting to get back into the Champions League, but I know that he can handle it.

"One great player doesn’t make a team, but you can build a team around one great player, and I believe he can be that player.

"Coutinho is a humble guy. He won't talk about being able to replace a legend like Steven Gerrard, and the truth is nobody could ever replace him, but with Gerrard gone they do need somebody to step up - and he can do that."

Liverpool signed another Brazilian over the summer in Firmino, and Kaka Kaka has high hopes for him too but warned Liverpool fans not to expect too much, too soon.

"Firmino will be a big player for Liverpool, too, and will have a good relationship on the field with Coutinho, but the fans must give him time," said Kaka.

"You must remember he is adjusting to a new league and that always takes time."

Wisdom still sees future at Liverpool

Andre Wisdom: Still wants to prove himself at Liverpool

Andre Wisdom still sees his long-term future at Liverpool despite being farmed out on loan again, this time to Norwich.

Wisdom has been at Anfield since he was 14 but has made only a handful of first-team appearances for the club having spent the last two seasons on loan at Derby and West Brom.

The 22-year-old will spend this campaign out on loan again, this time at Norwich, but is not currently thinking about making a permanent move to the Canaries or any other club.

"I made my Premier League debut for Liverpool at Norwich so I was happy to come here on loan and hopefully achieve some success," Wisdom said.

"I have also had loan spells at Derby and West Brom because I know that going out on loan is a big part of the game now.

"I am still young and I am still learning. But the Premier League is very tough so these loans can only help to make me a better player.

"Whatever happens I still see my future as being at Liverpool.

"But you have to prove yourself at this level and hopefully I can do that here."

Liverpool ready to offload Lucas

Lucas Leiva signed for Liverpool from Gremio in 2007

Liverpool will listen to offers for Lucas Leiva, but have not put the midfielder on the transfer list, according to reports.

The 28-year-old Brazil international did not feature in the Reds' squad for their 1-0 opening weekend win at Stoke City and reports this morning suggested the defensive midfielder is surplus to requirements.

Lucas also made just 16 Premier League starts last season and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has also brought in England midfielder James Milner following Steven Gerrard's departure to LA Galaxy.

Sky Sports sources are now reporting that Lucas could leave Anfield having signed for the club from Gremio in 2007.

He has made over 250 appearances for the club, scoring five goals, but has fallen behind the likes of Jordan Henderson and Emre Can in the midfield pecking order.

Lucas has 24 caps for Brazil having made his international debut in 2007.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admits to 'traumatic four years'

Brendan Rodgers:

Brendan Rodgers has called the last four years "traumatic", in which family tragedy and personal issues have made life harder at Liverpool.

The quotes from Rodgers come from football writer Michael Calvin's new book Living on the Volcano, in which football managers reveal the stresses and strains of life in the public eye.

Rodgers' is one of the more candid revelations, discussing his split from his wife and personal loss.

“I’ve been through probably the most traumatic four years of my life,” he said.

“I lost my mum. I lost my dad. I split up from the woman I loved for 23 years. I had a court case, two Old Bailey trials over six weeks with my son who was charged with sexual assault, which was an absolute disgrace.

However, Rodgers feels that he has used those issues to become a better manager. 

“Yet professionally, here and at Swansea, these have been the best four years of my life. Something has to come from within. You have to put the professional and personal to each side. It’s about being happy of course, but the owners have paid me to do a job, so I will do the job.

“There’s a story about Jimmy Sirrel at Notts County which has stuck with me since I was a young coach. His wife, Cathy, died late on the Friday night, but he came in on the Saturday.

“That Saturday night he quickly popped into the bar. Someone asked about his wife, and he said, ‘She died last night’. He’d lost the woman of his life, his right hand, but he still came in and did his job. Makes you think, doesn’t it?"

Liverpool won their first Premier League fixture of the season 1-0 at Stoke City on Saturday.

Balotelli too busy tweeting, says Di Canio

Mario Balotelli: Busy posting on Instagram

Paulo Di Canio says Mario Balotelli spends too much time on social networks and would rather be a celebrity than a footballer.

Former Sunderland manager Di Canio, an Italian compatriot of Balotelli, has been highly critical of the forward whose future at Liverpool looks far from assured.

Balotelli's agent insisted at the end of May that the 24-year-old was staying at Anfield, but the return of Divock Origi and arrivals of Danny Ings and Christian Benteke have sent him down the pecking order.

Serie A pair Sampdoria and Bologna have registered an interest in the striker, but his transfer fee and wages have so far prevented any prospective deal. 

"Talking as a manager, my view on football is you need to understand what it means to play with and for your team-mates," Di Canio told TalkSport.

"You need to show empathy in good moments and bad moments. It doesn’t look like he is doing this.

"Many managers have tried to change him. Mancini was his father in football but even he now doesn’t want him back at Inter.

"Mourinho understood at the beginning. He is a very good reader of players and he saw that you can’t change this guy. Now he is nearly 25, he needs to change himself. He can’t rely on other people to help him.

"The demons are in his brain. He is still young, physically he is strong, he is an incredible natural athlete, but he has never used his big potential.

"Sometimes he thinks football is I can keep the ball, show off in some way, and then my team-mates have to run for me. No. Football is sacrifice. Football is to bond with your team-mates. Not off the field in a bar because you are generous. It is being generous on the pitch.

"He has big potential and I hope in my heart for him that he can turn it around, but I presume it will be very difficult because he spends too much time on social network and it seems he uses football to be a celebrity - not the opposite."
