Victor Moses will not be returning to Chelsea earlier than expected, despite reports and specualtion, says Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.
Reports and rumours earlier this week suggested Liverpool had so far been so unimpressed by Moses, and Chelsea disappointed with his progress at Anfield, that a mutual agreement had been made for the Nigerian to return to Stamford Bridge.
Moses has looked increasingly unconfident and sluggish in recent games, with some fans accusing him of lacking the desire to perform for the Reds.
Moses’ loan deal doesn’t expire until the end of the season and in his press conference on Friday, Rodgers said he was happy to have the 23-year-old at the club.
He told the press, “I was surprised to see that report. I have regular dialogue with Chelsea. I saw Eddie Newton before the game.
“We speak regularly on Victor’s development. Victor’s talent hasn’t gone away, he’s very happy here.”
Moses has made 15 appearances for Liverpool since his move from Chelsea at the end of August, scoring just once, on his debut, against Swansea, back in September.
Rodgers added, “Of course, he wants to play more, but he’s learning, like he has at Chelsea, the demands of being at a big club.
“I’m delighted to have him here and I’m sure over the course of his time here he’ll show the talent that he is.”
Prior to arriving at Liverpool, Moses scored one goal in 23 league appearances for the Blues, eight goals in 74 appearances for Wigan, and 11 goals in 58 appearances for Crystal Palace.

Liverpool’s forward Luis Suarez has been named Barclays Premier League player of the Month for December 2012.
The Uruguayan international enjoyed the form of his life following an injury to strike partner Daniel Sturridge, which gave Suarez sole responsibility up front for the Reds.
Suarez scored 10 goals in December, which included four goals in Liverpool’s 5-1 victory over Norwich City.
Upon receiving the award, Suarez told Sky Sports , “It’s so important when you work hard on the pitch and they recognise it when you win these prizes.
“On the pitch I try to help Liverpool and I try to help the squad, and I think for confidence it is very good. If Liverpool continue at this level we can finish in the top four, which we want.”
Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for the 26-year-old striker this morning, telling talkSPORT , “He has had an horrendous run of injuries. He has lost all his defenders, but he is still asked to get the results.
“I think he has done an excellent job there. He got them promoted, which is never easy, coming out of the Championship is really tough, no matter how good a squad you have got.
“He had a great run with them last year, got them in around mid-table, and now unfortunately he has been hit with a lot of injuries.
“With big Andy [Carroll] being out for a lot of the season, that has probably hampered the style in which he has wanted to work, but is going to happen.
“You know there will be good days and bad days for you and obviously the last couple of games have been difficult for him but he has been around a long time. He has got great experience.
“I don’t know Sam that well but what I do know is, when I speak to him, he is very devoted to the profession of being a football manager. He is not just a manager who turns up and then stands on the side on a Saturday. He has very modern way of working.”
Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini was named the Barclays Premier League manager of the month for December.
His side won six times and drew once in December, including a 2-1 win over Liverpool on Boxing Day.

Twelve days into the transfer window and although speculation has been swirling, there’s still be no concrete evidence that a Liverpool signing is on the cards.
But that is to be expected. Aside from Daniel Sturridge’s early transfer on 2nd January 2013, January transfers usually come towards the end of the month.
Any transfer inactivity doesn’t stop the Rumour Mill from churning though, and today speculation about players the Reds have been linked with before resurfaces.
Matt Peters of the Daily Mail claims other Premier League clubs have joined the Reds in persuit of highly-rated Burnley striker Danny Ings.
The England Under-21 international has been on fire for Burnley this season, having scored 20 goals in the opening 24 league games and Cup runs.
Peters writes:
Burnley desperately want to keep the 21-year-old striker, but having sold Charlie Austin to QPR for £4m last summer, they know it could be difficult if an offer in excess of £5m is made during this transfer window.
The Clarets have just received a boost with Ings’ strike partner Sam Vokes signing a new contract to keep him at Turf Moor until 2017, and will be hoping they don’t have to part with top scorer Ings.
With Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Iago Aspas Liverpool’s only recognised forwards, Rodgers may be keen to bring in new striking talent, although Fabio Borini has impressed on his loan spell at Sunderland.
Meanwhile, another story being carried by the Daily Mail suggests Liverpool are eyeing up Dynamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko

With talks stalling between Liverpool and Basel for Egyptian international Mohamed Basel, according to Simon Jones, Brendan Rodgers has turned his attentions to the 24-year-old Ukraine international.
Jones writes in Friday’s paper:
Yarmolenko has scored eight goals in 16 appearances in the league for Kiev this season, and has 14 goals in 38 caps for Ukraine.
Liverpool are continuing negotiations over Basle’s Mohamed Salah but are weighing up alternatives as the Swiss drive up the price.
Attentions are focussed on Liverpool’s Premier League trip to Stoke this Sunday, with Rodgers set to give his pre-match press conference at Melwood at 2pm on Friday afternoon.
