Premier League: Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers rues missing out on Alexis Sanchez

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted to his frustration at missing out on Alexis Sanchez in the summer.

This season the Anfield side have struggled to fill the vacuum left by Luis Suarez's departure to Barcelona - their cause not helped by Daniel Sturridge's ongoing injury issues and Mario Balotelli's battle for fitness and form.

Liverpool tackle Arsenal this weekend in the Sky Live Super Sunday game looking for a response to last week's defeat at Old Trafford and Rodgers is fully aware of the threat Sanchez - who has 14 goals to his name - will pose to his team.

Rodgers said: "All I know he is that he (Sanchez) is a world-class player. He was identified as someone to come who would have been perfect for us. He is a brilliant player, he has outstanding quality and an even bigger work-rate so we know he will be a threat at the weekend.

"Raheem Sterling has been fantastic wherever he has played this season and he was outstanding the other night (at Bournemouth). We will continue to play him where it is in the best interests of the team.

"If we can win, it will continue our spirit and our focus. As I said Arsenal are a top side and have got outstanding players. For us it will be good for our confidence if we win but it will be a difficult game, no question."

Rodgers also confirmed that Brad Jones would continue in goal on Sunday, but refused to say whether he would be adding to his squad next month.

He said: "There is no change in the goalkeeping position, no change. I am not thinking about the January window at the moment to be honest."

Premier League: February fixtures live on Sky Sports

Everton and Liverpool go head-to-head on Saturday Night Football

Days after confirming Thierry Henry’s arrival as an expert analyst, Sky Sports has now added 10 live Barclays Premier League games from early February 2015.

As part of the newly announced schedule of matches, Sky Sports will show 13 different teams including current league leaders Chelsea, the chasing pack of Manchester City, Manchester United and high flyers West Ham United and Southampton.

Liverpool visit Goodison Park for the Merseyside derby on Saturday Night Football, before a triple header the following day, which culminates in Louis van Gaal’s United side at Upton Park to face West Ham.

Sky Sports viewers will see Liverpool three times in a month, with their clash against Manchester City on Sunday March 1 live on Sky Sports from 12pm.

Sky Sports viewers are set for 37 more live games between March and May. As the season reaches its climax, Sky Sports will be the home of more than three quarters of all live televised fixtures over the remainder of the season.

Sky Sports Managing Director Barney Francis said: “Following the addition of Thierry Henry, Sky Sports has revealed a mouthwatering set of fixtures in 2015 and is the place to see all the stories as they unfold.

“By March there will still be 37 live games to come on Sky Sports, as the season reaches its thrilling climax it will be the place to watch the games that matter.”

Brendan Rodgers’ pre-Arsenal press conference: Jones to continue in goal

Brendan Rodgers held his pre-match press conference on Friday morning ahead of Arsenal’s visit to Anfield on Sunday.

It was an unusually short press conference, with Rodgers giving very brief responses to questions and not his typically talkative manner. Here’s what was said.

Rodgers on Dejan Lovren‘s injury:

Raheem Sterling urged to sign long-term Liverpool deal by Steven Gerrard

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has told team-mate Raheem Sterling to commit his future to the club.

Despite his current deal having two and a half seasons to run, Sterling has seen his contract situation at Anfield become a talking point.

Sterling's versatility in being able to operate as a striker has provided under-pressure boss Brendan Rodgers with a welcome boost, and Gerrard hopes to see the 20-year-old stick around for a lot longer.

He told a number of national newspapers: "I hope he signs a new contract at the club because I think this club is perfect for him, certainly for the next few years.

"He's going to play most weeks, the fans love him here. He can progress here and become a top, top player here so I hope the people around him give him the right advice because he should stay here.

"He's great to watch, great to play with, he's got that pace. When you look up he's always giving you an option and that's what I've thrived on throughout my career at Liverpool with the likes of Fernando Torres, Michael Owen.

"There's nothing better as a midfielder when you look up and see pace running in behind. I saw it on numerous occasions [against Bournemouth in midweek] and hopefully it will continue because it stretches teams and creates chances."

Sterling's brace in a 3-1 win at Bournemouth on Wednesday was a real pressure reliever after a run of poor results.

His finishing was also impressive, having squandered a number of clear-cut chances at Manchester United on Sunday.

"You've got to be able to have that [versatility] in your locker if you want to be top drawer," added Gerrard.

"Raheem's got potential to be top drawer for sure. He took a lot of stick after the weekend but I thought his all-round performance was magnificent, the only thing that was missing was a finish and that came [against Bournemouth].

"The exciting thing for all of us is that he's English and going to be a top, top player. I think he can play anywhere along the front, he's that intelligent. He's got to keep learning, he's got to keep wanting it."

Ivorian striker Bony has netted more goals in 2014 than any other player (20) and only 11 fewer than Hull City have overall in this period (31).

Of the 17 ever-present Premier League sides in 2014, Hull City have won the fewest points (27, 10 fewer than any other ever-present side).

West Brom have won eight points from seven games away from home in the Premier League this season, despite only scoring three goals in these games.

Charlie Austin has had a hand in eight goals in his last eight Premier League appearances (six goals, two assists).

Southampton v Everton

Southampton won this Barclays Premier League fixture 2-0 last season courtesy of two own goals (Alcaraz & Coleman).

That defeat ended a run of eight games unbeaten for Everton against Southampton in the Premier League (W4 D4).

Southampton have won two and lost none of the last five Premier League games against Everton at St Mary's.

If games ended at half-time this season, Everton would be third in the Premier League table with 28 points.

However, if only the second-half of matches counted, Everton would be 14th with 17 points.

Dusan Tadic has not scored or assisted a single goal in his last eight PL appearances; this after having a hand in seven goals in his first eight PL apps (six assists, one goal).

Nevertheless, Tadic has created the most goalscoring opportunities from open play than any other player in the Premier League this season (42).

Steven Naismith has scored four goals from just eight shots on target in the Premier League this season.

Ronald Koeman has made just 38 of the 48 substitutions available to him in the Premier League this season; no club has used as few.

Southampton have seen six players start every single Premier League game this season; more than any other side.

Tottenham v Burnley

There have been 21 goals scored in the last four meetings in all competitions between Spurs and Burnley, with at least five in each game.

Those last four meetings between Spurs and Burnley have all been home wins.

There have been 55 goals in the last 12 meetings between Spurs and Burnley at White Hart Lane; an average of 4.6 per game.

Tottenham have won three Premier League games that they have been behind in this season - only Chelsea have won as many.

Spurs have won a league-high eight points from goals scored in the 85th minute or later in the Premier League this season.

Burnley have played the highest proportion of passes long this season in the PL (20.4%).

The Clarets have also made 30 more long throws than any other team in the PL this season (164, Tottenham are joint second on 134).

This is only the eighth time that Spurs will play a Premier League game on a Saturday at 3pm since the start of last season (it'll be their 55th PL game since Aug 2013 overall).

Burnley have won just one point in their eight previous Premier League trips to London (D1 L7).

The Clarets have failed to score in six of these previous eight Premier League away games in the capital.

Kevin Nolan has scored three goals in four Premier League appearances against Leicester.

Leicester City are winless in their last 11 Premier League fixtures (L9 D2) - the longest such run seen in the competition so far in 2014-15.

No player has created more goalscoring opportunities than Stewart Downing (50) in the Premier League so far this season.

No side have had a larger spread of goalscorers than West Ham United (12) this season in the Premier League (Chelsea also have 12).

The Foxes have not won any of their last 17 Premier League away trips to London (D3 L14) & have conceded at least two goals in each of their last eight PL away trips in the capital.

Anything less than a win in this game will ensure Leicester are bottom at Christmas. Only two teams (WBA in 2004 and Sunderland in 2013) have been bottom of the PL at Xmas and avoided relegation.

No side has picked up more yellow cards than Sunderland (37) this season, while only Swansea (4) have more red cards than Newcastle (3).

If matches ended a half-time this season, Newcastle United would be bottom of the table with 12 points.

The Magpies have been leading at half-time in just one of their 16 Premier League games this season.

Sunderland have scored three goals in the opening five minutes of PL games this season; more than any other side.
